P052E Code Help ???
Re: 2017 W213 E300 4Matic
Had check engine light come on today, of course about 5K after warranty expired. (55.4K). Car has been maintained by dealer, all services performed. Pulled a "P052E" code with a generic reader which points to a PCV, PCM, Crankcase vent problem etc. Can anybody point me toward any more information on where to start (component location, difficulty) ?? I changed the crankcase breather valve on my CLK years ago, but don't know where to start on this engine. Thanks in advance!! |
I found this via a Google Search and not likely what you're hoping to read:
P052E Mercedes-Benz Trouble Repair :If your P052E Mercedes-Benz check engine light is illuminated, it's best to take it in for diagnostic testing, which can feel like a hassle. Because while the lights vary in appearance from vehicle to vehicle, all have the same basic meaning: There's a problem with the car's emissions system. The on-board diagnostics system and engine control unit are in charge of monitoring a bunch of different, and if they get a reading that's a little out of whack, up pops the check engine light. |
Depending on exactly what the failure is the Federal Emissions Warranty coverage is for 8 years/80,000 miles. States may have additional coverage.

Thanks ua549, that’s a great point! |

Hi Cao... that was the first thing I checked. Funny, the CIL went out last night and then came back this morning. Will call dealer next time it shows. Thanks, John |
I am having this same exact code being shown on my 2015 c300 4matic. It has come and gone several times over the last few months. My warranty is just barely expired as well so I took the car into the dealership last week to find out if this problem would be covered under the federal emissions warranty. I was told that the crankcase vent valve would not be covered and that just about the only part that would fall under the emissions warranty is a catalytic converter . Sounded like bs to me so I opted to try and find a fix for it myself.
BTW sorry for the double post. I originally wrote this under a thread for GLC's. Reply #12 https://mbworld.org/forums/images/mo...sc/unknown.gifJetfuture , Today 11:49 PM Had this at about 32,000 miles. Covered under warranty. Would have been something like $1300 the dealer said. I was amazed at all of the major components they had to take out of the engine compartment to get to this part! CEL back on
Well, the P052E code just came back on...Does anyone know the location of "Positive Crankcase Ventilation Regulator Valve" on this engine ( W213 E300). From what I read this part is not covered under the federal emission warranty. :nix:

Hi ua549,
I've just turned 60k on the odometer. I've read other posts that say very few emission components are covered. :mercy: Thanks |

Read the Federal regs. If the part that failed has a specified life, i.e., replace after x miles or months, then it won't be covered after that replacement interval. Many emission system components should be replaced at 50k intervals. Do you know if the PVC valve has a scheduled replacement interval?

Your dealer can assist in any way he chooses, of course. In case you haven't already seen this, here is the MBUSA brochure on Service and Maintenance.
http://assets.mbusa.com/vcm/CAC_RAPM...rrantybook.pdf Also a link to YouTube search "Mercedes error P052e". Might give you a clue as to what to look for and where to look. Good luck. https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...es+error+p052e |
Both my MBs with the 4 cylinder engine (2016 C300 and 2017 GLC300) have had this crankcase ventilation issue, but luckily for us both were fixed within the warranty period. My sample of two vehicles is not conclusive by any means, but along with the failures others have mentioned in this thread, it would seem to be a common issue.

Thanks Cao'
Read through booklet under covered parts (70K - 7 Year, NJ) extended warranty, can not find any crankcase related part listed. Listed under Diesel engine but not Gas engines. Looks like they purposely left out a problem part. I took the car in for service this morning, the service adviser will let me know if it is covered, if not I'll have to pay a $230 diagnostic fee if I choose not to have it repaired at the dealer. I asked about a "goodwill repair" but he seemed to shrug the suggestion off. I have seen the video and that was the type of valve that I replaced on my brother's car. The new E300 engine does not seem to have that type of part. Can't find too much repair info on it. My WIS/EPC/ASRA software does not cover that engine. Also, Does anyone know if this is the M264 engine 4 cyl? Thanks again!! |

Hmmm, I thought it was M274?

Finale....Good News
Service adviser got back to me today...told me that the MIL was due to an "Oil Separator Hose" which repair would run around $2200...after almost going into a full cardiac arrest while driving, he stated he managed to get it covered. :wootrock:
While I am very grateful, would replacing a "hose" warrant a $2200 repair bill? :nix: I'm anxious in researching what this repair involves such as difficultly, and price of the actual part. Again...thanks to all for your input on this thread...and I hope this helps someone else. Regards, John |
Anyone know the part # on this valve/line who has had it done? Might be on your invoice/repair. Called my MB dealer and they want $361 for the part but wouldn't give me the part #.. I'm going to try and get some pictures and do the swap myself.. has to be an easier way to get this thing out. I'm at 59k miles :-\ Not going to spend nearly $1800 in labor..
|
While someone may jump in with the part number later, for future reference you could just look it up in EPC which is MB's electronic parts catalog, you just punch in the vin number and start searching. You can usually get a knock off copy on eBay for under $10 and it usually includes the WIS which is the workshop information system which is basically the repair manuals the dealer uses.

I have WIS / EPC... can't seem to locate this exact part :-\ Was hoping someone who had it done had their repair doc.
