There's Something So Satisfying About Cleaning Your Benz
Those around here who know me, know I'm truly loving the new E450. One measure of how much I love a car is whether I wash it myself! My last Benz, I didn't. It was a nice 2016 C300, but it just never really excited me. In fact, not since my first 1995 E320, have I owned a Mercedes that gives me the same feeling as I got then, but the E450 does. So we had nowhere to go today and it was a beautiful sunny and warm day in Tampa, I wanted to wash the cars and clean them inside completely. I didn't take any pics of the inside all pristine clean and trust me, the inside is beyond pristine and clean, but I did take some of the outside. Being a proud papa, here they are!
And of course the Silver E400 got a nice bath and pristine clean interior as well!
They look great! I agree after I have cleaned my car I really do enjoy just looking at it. No the same but one time I took my car to the dealer to get it washed and when it pulled up it looked so good I didn't think that it was mine and another guy in the waiting area looked at it and said it looked good and all I could do is smile and agree.
I won't let my dealer wash my car. They use one of those brush drive through systems. They always create swirl marks and I don't want swirl marks on my car. I do love driving a really clean car. It's not supposed to rain for the next several days, so it will stay clean at least till next weekend!
Once again, thank you for sharing your ownership experience and keeping us updated with your beautiful E 450. Do you notice the extra power and responsiveness of the E 450 over the E 400 in daily driving situation?

I do see a small difference between the E400 and E450. It is not a huge difference, however. I think the E400 is very capable. The E450 even more so, but it's not significant. At least not to me.
I'm not sure why you're having issues uploading photos? Are you using Wifi when you try to post? When you tap the picture button on the top and browse your device. What happens when you tap the picture you want to upload? Does is show the progress bar in the uploader? Once it's fully updated, it should look complete. THEN you choose upload and it should appear in the message you're responding to.
EQC 4matic AMG line Premium Plus replacing S213 220d 4matic with airmatic
5 weeks grime
My bad I was clicking on the paperclip not the picture which my mind read as excel chart doh
As you can see my beauty gets pretty mucky - might venture out and wash her down later but as soon as I go out she will get filthy again. Professional nano coating might make it easier to hose clean but tyhere is nowhere here I could get it done and frankly is money I would rather spend on other things.
Anyway Rod if you fancy the joy of cleaning you are welcome to come and do mine
I was too verklempt to say anything about your first picture. Tears came to my eyes
But the second photo? SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!
Around here at this time of year the car is never clean. Years ago it would stay at -20 for a few months and the frozen car stayed clean. These days it’s freeze thaw and messy for months. You would likely find it quite stressful.

ive honestly thought of getting it done too but my E is a short term lease. With the amount people charge in Calgary I can’t justify the cost. Most places are asking for $1700 for one coating. On top of that paint correction and preparing/detailing it for the ceramic coating is extra.
I was born and raised in the mid-Atlantic (Washington DC area). In 1987, we had two back to back 3+ foot snow storms, 4 days apart. I made the decision then and there I was moving where snow never visits and within weeks, sold my house and we moved to Florida. Snow, as far as I'm concerned, should be looked at, preferably in pictures, but never touched. That's my view, yes it is! My OCD wouldn't just be tested, it would be broken beyond my ability to function if I lived in a cold climate again.

I know what you mean. When I first moved here snow was amazing. Over time you begin to hate it more and more. Commuting from my suburb to downtown ends up taking 2 hours when it’s snowy because people forget how to drive at the first sign of snow. On top of that it’s a pain in the a** with cars because they keep getting dirty and especially with a black car it bothers me
Something satisfying as well about not having to clean it all the time, living as I do, in a secret location (for you Top Gear fans) above the smog, below the snow, just off the US49. Seriously, I can go nearly half a year without seeing rain. Makes my job easier.
P. S. Anyone living where temperatures start with a minus sign (-) should be exempt from cleaning responsibilities.
It's clear that even with the upcoming snowstorm, I'm taking my car for a wash and wax this weekend and then burying it in the garage.
However, I like using the car. My favorite is when it gets dirty from real use (heavy rain or snow). The car is simply outstanding in these conditions. Then, first day of sun, I visit my neighborhood auto detailer and it's back to sparkling until the next noreaster.
I envy southerners for their weather, particularly after living in Tampa for 7 years. However, I do not envy them for their mediocre Italian food. Mamma mia! Then again, my car is German and would probably wear socks with sandals if it lived down there.

Very nice, did you install the diamond grill from the coupe?

The only option I really have is to run it through a touchless auto car wash when it gets this cold. It sucks but it is what it is. I usually just get it professionally detailed during summer because it's illegal for us to wash our cars anywhere in our driveway so handwashing it myself is out of question

Beg your PARDON? Donatello in Tampa is fabulous and very authentic, down to the look of the family, who are reminiscent of the perfect Italian crime family from NY. Their lobster in Linguine is a true delight prepared side table where the lobster is perfectly de-shelled (up to 3lb'ers) and then sauteed in a pan with a perfect light tomato sauce. Now, I hope I leave you hungry AND drooling! LOL

Snow is pretty while it's falling AS LONG AS you're home. But then it stops snowing and the reality of having to shovel that crap, drive on icy snowy roads, or worse slide into someone, or someone slide into you, ruins the magic. For someone like me, a snowy climate just won't work.
