Why do you think is there still no integrated dashcam option?

Why do you think is there still no integrated dashcam option?
the hardwire (4 cameras) is there and the car can even send notifications when parked, yet a dashcam option still doesn't exists.
(I only know of Renault that offers 1 camera in the rearview mirror)
I fail to understand why that is? possible legal issues? - too expensive option? (I doubt)
what do you guys think?

I've wonder that myself for years here in the US. With all the camera availabilities on the MB cars, you would think an optional dash cam type recording device would be available. Heck, you've got all sides covered by cameras....you'd think this would be an ideal move by the car companies.
Absolutely no legal issues I know of here in the US not to. How many wouldn't put an option like this at the top of their list?

I saw this advert on tv about a year ago for BMW, but that was an option where you could access the camera
in case of an alert when parked. - already not bad at all, but It didn't have the dashcam option.
Here in france you are not allowed to have a camera film a fixed point on a public road,
bu as a dashcam is not filming something particular (the house of your neighbour 24/7) it is therefore accepted as evidence in an accident.

Here's the thing: I don't really want to add on some clunky dash cam that I have to attach to my rearview mirror or dash. Here on our cars, the cameras are already in place. Why not add an optional recording device?
Interesting about that fixed point restriction in France. As far as I know, we don't have that here in the US.

I considered adding front and rear cameras after my car suffered a hit and run when it parked. I did not follow through partly because of the cost and installation issues. For some reason my car does not have 12v outlets and wiring to the panel in the trunk was complex and ugly. I can't even plug in a radar detector or other accessory. MB could and should put USB connections near the front and rear window frames for accessories.

I have TWO dual cams in my car. the rear cams of each serve as side cams.
il ive in marseile; it's a must have
Just one example:
so many times people cut me have & then hit the brakes (not out of anger but just because they are **** drivers).
imagine you then rear ending them because of this..
it also films (motion) in my underground parking so it serves as a general security cam as well :-)

Just go online and see the hundreds of videos of bad drivers and pedestrians who leap on slow moving cars just to make a claim.

Again, its been pointed out, you control the use of the video. They have data recorders for track, why not a dash cam recorder? It seems such a no brainer to me and obviously, many others.

I was trying to suggest an answer to the OP’s question. “Why do you think there is still no integrated dash cam option?”

Tesla just released a update to their cars that uses all cameras and records everything around it while parked and while in motion as a dashcam. Sentry mode. look it up.

well my cameras (again) paid off last week….
i only noticed the impact 2 days after & immediately pulled the images.
the company name was written on the car so googled them.
owner said he would check, and called back to advise the person that drives the car denied.
he then asked me for the footage, and upon receiving it said "well that's clear!"
so their insurance will cover all. .
thank you my lil dashcam!

Why is a dashcam not a standard in cars today you ask? Insurance, and police. Few examples from my own personal experience come to mind. Insurance, someone runs a red light smashes into you, can easily say not my fault because there is video evidence. That leaves $$$ out for lawyers and going back and forth in court, which have court fees and all point to $$. Police, Would be a lot harder to say you were driving at 72 in a 65 when you were actually going 67. Or you did not come to a full stop 5 intersections ago. While a quick look at your own video you have factual proof, instead of I did stop.

i have a hard time following your post to be honest. (""someone runs a red light smashes into you, can easily say not my fault because there is video evidence"")
but also; if *I* want a camera then why doesn't mercedes offer me this option?
Cos i have one in my car now so what, in the end, is the difference, other than having a nice discrete integrated solution..?

Egonvdv, your example alone proves why this is such a necessity. It saved you money and protected you against the hit and run culprit. Really a shame Mercedes does not allow us the option of recording with all these cameras we pay for. Would surpass any dashcam on the market today with it's 180 degree view and multiple cameras.
