A Glimmer of Hope from MB Corporate!

So up until about 5 years ago when MB moved its corporate headquarters to the Atlanta area the home of MB corporate in the USA was located in a beautiful area located in Northern NJ and back then it seems that if you had a problem with your MB, whether it was a C class or an S class car, if you had a problem with it and it was escalated to MB corporate, they got on it yesterday and the people who worked there knew what they were doing. No offense to the new location of Atlanta where MB moved their corporate headquarters to, but the people who work there have two speeds when they address your issues, slow and stop. Before MB moved I had a very close friend that worked
for MB in upper management and was tied at the hip to corporate MB in Germany and he knew what was going on. In any case MB moved for one reason only, the tax savings as the state of GA gave them some kind of tax credit for 20 or more years, so they moved there giving no consideration to the fact that their current employees had been working for MB since the 50’s when MB first started selling cars in this Country!
Needless to say, bad move and as with many things in life, once you leave there’s no going back.
The employees are still very nice but they really don’t have the knowledge that the people they replaced had and it shows.
Now their standard answer is, “Everything comes out of Germany” in that way that allows them to sidestep their inability to answer any questions that they are baffled by, which is almost everything.
In any event, MB corporate HQ in Germany has just announced that they plan to cut at least 3 to 5 different models from their lineup as they realized that they have lost some of their focus in terms of what their customers are looking and expect in a high quality automobile.
so, say goodbye to the Smart4Two, adios to the “C” class that was their entry level car at under $30k and now costs a little south of $50k with some much needed options and at least two of their cars built in the USA!
Their new focus will be on their “Bread and Butter” cars, the E and S class cars with the new A class car being the mule for all of their new updates that will be found on the more expensive E and S class cars. It’s an idea who’s time has come and gone and unsurprisingly has come again. Hope they stick to it what with the likes of Audi and BMW and the Japanese breathing down their necks.

Virtually every vehicle manufacturer adjusts models and production to match sales and regulations. It isn't a very big deal. Though I'll miss several models that are now being relegated to history such as the SL 63, it is time to move on. Embrace new models and technology and enjoy the discontinued models of interest by adding them to your collection.

As for MB leaving New Jersey, I'm surprised there isn't a much bigger out-migration even though NJ leads the nation in out-migration. I'm sure that MB employees had the opportunity to relocate along with the headquarters. That's a very personal decision. Don't blame MB USA for employees quitting rather than relocating.
