Is this a camera or a sensor?

Hi,

I've just purchased my Mercedes Benz E Class - W213. I've purchased the car as new from Mercedes dealership.

I have a question, which answer I didn't find in the owners manual:
On the intrument cluster between the two screens, there is a small camera or a sensor.
What's the purpose of this?

I don't have a picture with the camera right now so I've searched an instrument cluster over the internet, and I've uploaded it here. I've highlighted the camera with a red circle.

Thank you

Is that the attention sensor? It monitors for when the driver needs a break?

Possibly an ambient light sensor that adjusts the LCDs to just the right brightness.

This.

If you don't care about finger prints, stick your finger over it and see if the display dims.

There is no attention sensor. Attention assist works by driving time and if you wander around the road while driving. Its basically a timer.

If you DO care about fingerprints, use that wad of bills in your pocket.

My bet is on light sensor. There are lots of light, temperature, microphones and other sensors scattered about the dash in any Benz.
