Shopping an E-class
I spent the day at the dealership and am interested in a 2017 E300 with 13000 mile on the odometer. The car has brand new tires and I am bothered by the fact that the car needed new tires at 13k. The salesperson tells me that it is because the car is Certified Pre Owned and that requires them to put new rubber on it.
Does anyone here besides me find this suspicious at 13,000 miles?
I'd also like to know of any known problem spots in the 2017 E300.
Thanks in advance, Mike.

I have a 2017 E300 Luxury model purchased new. After 22 months and 17,000 miles I needed new front tires. I drive like a little old lady so no abuse on the tires . The rapid tire wear is due to the stiffer compound for the run flat tires. I ended up changing all 4 to regular tires because of better ride quality and tire wear warranty. I purchased a floor jack and have a full size spare tire I’m my trunk, couldn’t be happier

I had the alignment done after replacing all the tires. I have had no major issues with this car, a few squeak here and there but resolved. I absolutely love this car, I have a fully loaded P3 package car will every option except for heated steering wheel and airmatic suspension. What size rims on the car you are considering? Remember larger rims may look nicer aesthetically however have a firmer ride not to mention the run flat tires

I have a 2017 E300 with about 16,000 miles on it. Like kingscorpion, you can put me in the old lady driver club - I basically cruise to work at about 40mph and drive to the airport with it... My tires are easily 40 to 50% worn out.
Also, to the point you raised, mike, I have had to be aggressive about rotating the tires, as there was pretty quick evidence of uneven tire wear by about 8,000 miles.
All of that said, you will love the car - there's been almost nothing wrong with mine, and every time I get into it, I enjoy it like the day it was new. Best of luck with your decision.

Rapid tire wear is because the tires from the factory are Mercedes Original MO specification. It rarely lasts longer than 10,000 under normal driving conditions. The main purpose of these factory specific tires is to give the driver a comfortable ride while sacrificing tire wear. You can have two exact same tires, but one is MO specified. That is what is put on from the factory. But those tires will quickly wear out, compared to a non-MO spec tire. You can find a longer wearing run-flat tire when compared to a MO-spec runflat. But in general, no runflat right now can have as good a ride as a non-runflat. What kingscorpian27 did is the only way to get decent tire wear and ride quality.

Just an FYI, I went with Bridgestone Quiet Track with 80,000 miles warranty. Very comfortable ride and have achieved 35.1 mpg 557 and 600 miles per tank on long trips. Best thing I ever did. The cost of the 4 installed was similar to what I would have paid MB for 2 replacement Continental run flat tires. I also purchased from Costco, they are everywhere in the county and open 24/7.
Where do you live?

I looked at the car again and the dealer replaced the original tires with Hankook "Ventus S1 Noble 2" tires. I learned at Hankook's web site that this tire is available in a run-flat version but I can't tell from looking at the tire if it really is. Does anyone know what to look for on this tire to tell if it is run-flat tire?

I think that I just learned that there is "HRS" molded in the sidewall for Hankook Runflat System and I do see that on the photo that I took of the tires.

I wouldnt be concerned. I rather get brand new tires with my purchase and then you get to use them up how you see fit.
As others said these tires are not going to last you 40-50k miles or what a lot a lot of drivers expect. They are run flats. And also have a focus on performance. Tread life is a lot lower on these tires.

So i signed for the car today, a nicely optioned 2017 E300, black on black leather interior and only 13k miles.
It's a one owner off-lease car that was sold new from the same dealer that I'm buying it from and the service records show that it was crought in twice for regular maintenance and nothing more. The service was done in the same dealership. It's nicely optioned with Burmester sound, parking pilot, heated steering wheel and mirrors and a nice upgrade from our C300.
So it looks like I'll be spending some time lurking around here in the near future. I'd still like to hear experiences with the car and opinions from others who own one.

I’m pleasantly surprised by mine. I’ve got 18” wheels. My previous e wagon had Pirelli centuros (I’m sure I spelled that wrong) on 19” wheels and I’ve experienced nothing with the Hankook’s that makes me dislike them in comparison. For me, they’re not too stiff. I have the full air suspension, though.

My daughter has Honkook tires on her Elantra. They wore out around 20k miles of all city driving. She replaced them with Continentals about 30k miles ago. They are about half worn.
I usually get about 15k miles (3 years) of all town driving on a set of tires. Tires are not that expensive and your life depends on them. I usually replace them before selling the car.
