Door sill protectors
The door sill protector on the passenger side of my car fell out of the car, when my passenger opened the door. I took the flimsy piece of chrome to the dealer and of course they had them in inventory. The service technician suggested replacing the driver side piece also. I asked the service writer if this was common in a year old car? He said it happens often. I was surprised at how cheap the piece was and that it was not a long term item.

Interesting - if you are talking about the shiny sill plate that says "Mercedes Benz", I am not sure why it wouldn't last the life of the car. I admittedly don't drive much - only 16,000 miles in 3 years, but I would expect that only in extreme use like taxi service would the sill plate fall off or need to be replaced. Maybe someone else here will have a different opinion...
