Unhappy Door sill protectors

The door sill protector on the passenger side of my car fell out of the car, when my passenger opened the door. I took the flimsy piece of chrome to the dealer and of course they had them in inventory. The service technician suggested replacing the driver side piece also. I asked the service writer if this was common in a year old car? He said it happens often. I was surprised at how cheap the piece was and that it was not a long term item.

Interesting - if you are talking about the shiny sill plate that says "Mercedes Benz", I am not sure why it wouldn't last the life of the car. I admittedly don't drive much - only 16,000 miles in 3 years, but I would expect that only in extreme use like taxi service would the sill plate fall off or need to be replaced. Maybe someone else here will have a different opinion...

Service advisor said it was not unusual.

why on earth would anyone suggest to replace the driver's side one as well (unless this was under warranty). It's not like its a part with a life expectancy.

Covered under warranty. And they had plenty in inventory.
