CD Payer in glove box

No! CDs are obsolete technology.
Five years ago I put all of my CD collection on a 128 GB SD card for the car.
That's about 9k music tracks plus a few mp4 videos to watch while I'm waiting for my wife to shop.

My C320 has a 6 CD player in the glove box. Of course, that car is now 18 years old.
The multi-disc player was offered as recently as 2016 for the W212. My 2016 E350 has the single DVD/CD instead, and is more than sufficient when occasionally needed.
I agree CD tech has been obsoleted by the onboard USB and SD card available in all of these cars. One can place his/her entire music collection on a single 64GB SD card no bigger than a nickel, without need to fiddle with multiple CDs, each with a single album only. Not to mention the glove box space surrendered to install the CD changer.
Back on topic, if one desires to install a CD player, you will need to ensure compatibility... IIRC, the CD changer in my C320 is compatible with the head unit's fiber optic communications system, and I assume newer models have the same optical system, and the same requirements.
Good luck with this install if you decide to pursue it..

Well, right you are, an S-Class $250 option installed in the glovebox. Doubtless you must buy the $5000 Premium Package to get it.
And it's just a CD player (no DVD). Also I see this one is a single disc unit only. How archaic... I had a full head of hair in 1985.
At least the CD changer in my lowly 2001 C320 is a 6-Disc CD unit.
And of course it takes sizable space in the glove box. Can't imagine any S-Class owner sacrificing glove box space for it, as those Louis Vuitton handbags take the whole space. Aw, wait. What was I thinking. Many S-Class owners sit in the back... driver can change the CD as needed.
Did I mention my 2001 C320 also has an audio cassette player behind the radio? I used it once, just to verify it worked.

2010 E350 Luxury Sedan, Engine 272 (V6)
One of the many reasons why I prefer to keep my 2010 E (cost is not one) is because of the 6 CD changer. I do use the Music Register, but still like to load up the CD changer.
As for USB, etc. the sound is not as good as the original CD playing directly through the car's audio system. I have other vehicles where we have the USB and a CD player and I have compared same CD's through both systems.
Either Genesis or Continental (maybe both) offer single CD players as $100 options.
As for it being old school technology, maybe so, but it still works and works extremely well. Just as four tires on a road works. That is why millions of CD's are still being sold every year and with thousands of new ones coming out every year.

Well, I did factory order my ‘19 S63 AMG with the CD in the glove box. Have had it for 9 months now and am glad I did the CD in glove box installed by the factory—it is $130 option thought even if you may see it priced at $250–MB mistakenly priced it is some places. Love it! So yes there are some old folks like me (in my 50s) that still like the OLD CD player.

Has anyone installed this? http://www.benzblogger.com/2018/01/c...8-s-class.html
Reason 1. I work in the music industry. I have thousands of cds and the sound quality and ease of just popping in a disc is a million times easier than having to download it, change the metadata, sync it, and sorry apple itunes sucks...it often isn't uploaded.
Reason 2. I am finding that when I bluetooth my ipod, there is sound distortion in the speakers and you can't separate the sound of the ipod from the main volume.. Basically, the cd player gives MUCH better sound than my ipod.
While it takes up some space in my glove compartment and it is sorta a pain to have to lean over and put them it, I am GLAD I did.
NOTE: Mine does NOT play DVDs for some reason AND it will not auto download to the internal harddrive. But it is great if you have the extra money.
Hope this helps.

Where do you think maps are stored? As the previous poster stated, you can't use it for media storage but there's definitely a hard drive for COMAND.
