4G Network connectivity and live traffic issues

My US spec E440 has repeatedly had the following problem in the last few days. Live traffic fails, and I've now noticed that the 4G signal connection that's shown as a pair of horizontal blue arrows on the top right of the command screen is missing at the same time, so MB apps don't work, and the car reports no network connectivity. The fault is intermittent but frequent; usually within a couple of mins starting the car its either going to have 4G and live traffic, or not, over a 20-30 min drive.

Does anyone know if its a sign of a failing communications module in my car, or if the problem is on MB servers and common to all cars in the same locality. I'm in NW DC/MD suburbs. I could drive out to a dealer and ask them to check modules and compare reception to other cars in for service, but before that I'd like to know if this is a common problem. To emphasize again its not just live traffic, but also 4G connection to MB apps that's failing.

Up here in the NYC area I've also had intermittent Live Traffic failures - not the first time - I believe it's a server issue

I believe the live traffic data is provided by Tom Tom (obviously requires internet connectivity from vehicle). You can check to see if their servers are up or not at:

That's the status of their marketing presence, which will have nothing to do with the status of the traffic data network. Traffic information is provided to the car using a very different architecture (called REST) than a web site and the servers will be quite separate from tomtom.com.

Do you also lose 4G connectivity at the same time? No need to check MB apps, you can see status in top right screen next to where the cell phone signal strength and charge is shown.

I know they have been doing a lot of work on the system, someone said a while back things could be messed up for quite sometime. I noticed the weather app no longer works and posted another thread about it. I guess the work on the system started around the time of the last update which added the "hood" feature to the list of monitored components in the car although the current "Hood" designation is still not activated as of yet.
