Folks....Need to replace my daily driver in a couple months. Currently it is a 2016 Audi Q7 which has done well for what it is with zero issues.
I am enamored with a wagon and def want to get one. I do own 2 other Benz cars(2011 SLS and 71' 300SEL 6.3)
For where my budget is...$60K ish,,,,,I can get a 19 E450 or a 16 E63 AMG S wagon.
What do y'all recommend? I also like the Porsche Sport Tourismo 4S but they are too expensive right now. No other wagons are really doing it for me(Volvo V70, Jag sport brake etc)
Can someone compare the new 19 450 with the E63 from 2016....how much of a step down or a step up is it(Performance, reliability, handling, Interior etc)

The technology in the S213 is a quantum leap over the 212. Much better voice control, Car Play / Android Auto, downloadable nav map upgrades, integrated TuneIn radio, hi-res display, etc. etc. That's what you trade-off versus the handling and thrilling power. The E450 will save money on gas, brakes and tires. Only you can decide which attributes are more important.
2019 E 450, 2016 E350 4matic (retired), 2018 Ford Edge Sport, 2008 Porsche Boxster
Just my $.02:
If you go basic but include the safety features (as per my model below) I do not think $60,000 (ish) out the door even with a 12% discount will be possible for the 2019 E450 wagon.
I think you will find the MSRP pushing high $70,000 and even with 12% you are looking at $70,000 (ish)
For my money the E450 is more than sufficient. I saw no reason to spend more on an any AMG: remember with the AMG there is a deterioration in the ride quality - the price you pay for marginal better handling and I doubt you will ever need the extra HP of the AMG

I should have clarified....I was looking at used 2019 E450 wagons at the 60K level ...not brand new.
Apples vs oranges. Do you want a nearly new car or a used high performance car? That question needs answered.
Gosh I really don't know. The heart wants the E63 and the mind wants the E450.
I am also a little spooked on the prev gen E63 issue list on that forum. Pretty much saying that it is suicide to own one without warranty.
Also coming from a q7 daily driver so perhaps the E450 performance is a step up.
I do have an sls and a P90D tesla with ludicrous if I really need speed but then the E63 wagon is such a unicorn.
If you haven't, I highly recommend that you drive them before going too much further. Personally, I think the E450 has all the power I'll ever need. It puts a smile on my face with its performance and acceleration. Sure, at the track the E63 is the way to go. But driving around for the day, I'd rarely use a 0-60 time approaching 3 seconds.
Wait, you have an sls and a P90? I say scrap the 90, get a P100, and a shiny new S450.
The S would make a nice daily driver, but it’s not a station wagon.

The P90D is a lease and is going back in December. Have had a deposit down on the Taycan for over a year but the pricing on it has given me pause. May end up with a P100D at the end of the day.
It is the wife's daily driver so I have to get her input as well I suppose. She says she is bored with the Tesla after 3 years...needs something different.
I don't think I can get a S450 for $60K. Also like the E better.
Even if I was considering the S, I would probably be posting a thread on the new S450 vs prev gen S63 AMG :-)
I've had both and like my E450 better as a daily driver. The power of the E450 has amazed me especially with a tune. The e63 has suicidal power, lol. More than I really needed and normally I'm behind someone going 20 mph under the speed limit anyhow, lol. I do miss my 2012 AMG wagon though, drove that car many miles and had great luck with it, was getting nervous with it though hitting over 50K miles and the warranty running out, I heard even to do a turbo on that car the engine has to come out and it's a 10K job.
I moved from a W212 AMG wagon to a W213 E400 wagon. If you must scratch your muscle wagon itch there is no substitute for the AMG wagon ( except perhaps the new RS6 wagon ). However, I wouldn't want one out of warranty and my wife and daughter found the ride rough. Aside from the horsepower and exhaust note I like the E400 better.
I was on the fence too, between a new (or better pre-owned E63S) and the standard E450 estate wagon. Purchased this 2019 E450 Estate Wagon yesterday for 1/2 the cost of what the same car in the E63S would have been.
Fully Optioned, including AMG Exterior and designo Black/ Titanium Grey Pearl Nappa Interior. Clean lines, subtle appearance, respective performance.
Really nice interior sold me on the car not to mention MB's year end close out discount.
FWIW, we lost our 15 E63S wagon in the last Houston flood. Horribly disappointing as we loved the car minus the eh ride comfort. Looking to keep the price on the new or CPO car under 90k ideally. We're not finding much stock of CPO W213 E63 wagons. Drove the 450 wagon. Really nice and the ride is great. Drove the 2018 and latest upgraded 2019 M550 (would only do a lease on this). Drove the M340. Drove the TT V6 Alfa. Would consider a CPO RS7.
Bottom line. The 450 wagon is too boring. The M550i is highly comfortable and very quick but the styling and lack of feedback is off putting. The M340 just isn't an M3 in feedback. Got the 18 year old LX470 out of mothballs and fixed everything. Going to work on cosmetic upgrades and will put it back in rotation as a daily for me or my wife.
Where are we now? The right w213 CPO E63S wagon, wait a year for new M3 (looks pending a la the grill), or a nosebleed new RS6 Avant that my wife has the hots for. Moral of the story is that we enjoyed the W212 AMG wagon so much that other new cars just are not compelling enough. I really wanted to love the 450 wagon and chip it but the AMG, bad ride in its full glory, is still incredibly engaging and tops in my book.
I waffled between a E450 and E63S (wagons) for months. Finally ended up with a 18 E63S. Regrets? None, nada. I haven't found the ride to be rough at all, though I am more performance oriented and value handling over cush.

I for one can appreciate you choice and and say so with a bit of envy. I went the opposite direction, wanted a new '19/20 E63s wagon but purchased a new '19 E450 4S wagon with the upgraded optional designo Black and Grey/Titanium interior instead. Will use the excess proceeds (price difference not spent) toward the purchase of another toy.
When I priced out the E450 it came to $90K (loaded). Strongly considered a ED delivery to get the 7% off but a 2 week trip for 2 to Europe would have ended up costing me $20K (wife refuses coach on long trips). I picked up a 4K mile 18 CPO E63S for $99K. It doesn't have quite the option list the E450 had (I really like the Designo interior) but pretty close. And of course the engine ....

Well, as we all know the E63S Wagon is all about the engine and performance and are certainly unique vehicles, seldom seen. Congrats.
For those wanting more power out of there e400/450 there is the Dinan part number D440-0035. https://www.dinancars.com/product/d4...turbo-engines/ kinda use at your own risk as their piggy backs don’t carry the same warranty as their regular tuner but it’ll give you an extra 3 to 4 pounds of turbo boost which is substantial. The car will do around a 13.3 quarter mile stock in good DA which is pretty amazing. I really think with the Dinan high 12s would be possible just going by my seat of the pants gauge. I’ll let you all know. It really does make the car more fun to drive as you just get so much more mid to low end torque. I realize this pails in comparison to the potential 11.2 quarter mile with the e63 amg. That is just insanely fast for a stock car. The car I do miss is my 2012 e63 amg. That was one classy and fast car. Stock I could consistently run 12.1s and that was just RWD. I really do like the feel of RWD cars better. My 2019 RWD E450 cabrio is one of the nicest driving cars I’ve ever had. I did not really care for the way my 2018 e63 wagon drove at all. Everyone thought I was nuts getting rid of it but it was just not my cup of tea.

A word of caution - your dealer may not view mods like the D440-0035 as warranty friendly and may cancel your warranty if they discover it has been installed.
