2018 E300 T-Boned at 60+ MPH

This is what an E300 looks like after getting T-Boned by a Ford F250 at over 60 MPH, thanks to Mercedes both my wife and I walked away with only a few injuries.

You walked away with a few injuries!

UNBELIEVABLE: but so very, very happy for both of you.

10 years ago, before all the safety features, I doubt you you would now be posting on this forum!

Thank goodness, happy you both are ok. I fiancé’ was T boned in a Chevy Equinox, wasn’t as bad as yours but she was also told the car saved her life. She ended up purchasing the same vehicle in the same color because that was her favorite color.

Holy moly - are those pry marks where the passenger door had to be pried open? Car did great - really great. Impressive that passenger wasn't seriously injured. Looks like some amount of intrusion into passenger footwell.

Amazing and glad you are both OK.

Yes, door had to be pried open and much more intrusion into the passenger foot well than the pictures show. Fortunately, I was the last to sit on that side and am 6'6" so the seat was far back, my wife is 4'11" so her feet didn't even go into the foot well. A full sized human being would have both their legs trapped and crushed. The frame rail behind the dash is bent at a 45 degree angle and toast.

Sounds like good engineering and a little bit of luck won the day - very glad you both weren't seriously hurt. Wow.

Glad everyone is ok, nasty accident. Yep, these cars are amazing. Very good engineering. What did the guy in the F250 blow through a light or stop sign or something? Was he drunk? I hope you or wife don't have any injuries you don't know about yet, that sometimes happens.

Wow! PJD, I'm actively researching and planning a purchase of the 2020 E-450 Estate Wagon. My wife is petite (4'8") like yours, and I had worried about accident protection for her sitting in the front passenger seat. She has serious back, shoulder and neck issues. From the look of your pictures, I'm amazed and glad that your wife exited your car in reasonably good health. You just sold me on the safety of the E. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Blew a red was doing 80 in a 25 before he slammed is breaks about 15 feet before impact while dressed up in his Halloween costume at 7 pm with alcohol on his breath and even though both the cop and i smelled it they did not give sobriety test.

We have both had full ct and mri, i have 2 previous major spine surgeries and spent 12 hours yesterday doing all types of testing possible and so far things are looking good. However I have major inflammation from whiplash and have had a headache on and off for the past few days so i am very concerned about that (i literally never get headaches).

If you want more info here is a picture of the handful of cars that our third and final impact destroyed after blowing through a steel pipe guardrail over 100 feet from the impact perpendicular to our direction of travel. This was our e classes last and final resting place as a car that drove

some would say this is where that "the best or nothing" comes into play....MB safety, and, its with reading pleasure that we learn neither of you sustained any serious injuries.

Oh my - glad you both are ok as well and I hope you continue to stay that way.

Brings back awful memories of my husband being hit in his 2010 GLK by a dump truck with a tractor trailer on a major highway that spun around and hit his car front, back and sides.

Luckily it was in morning rush hour and everyone was moving slowly. He ended up with a cervical fracture but healed well.

I had to go to where the city tows cars and when I saw how mangled the GLK was I was even more grateful my husband walked away with the minor injury he sustained.

I had to get his keys and stuff out and the only door that opened was the drivers side.

I know that terrible feeling and am thinking of you both.

Be well.

You mean the lady that called us via the car and wouldn't hang up until the EMS and FD arrived and confirmed that with her? Or are you talking about the App and its features? If the lady then yes if the app, then I never even got around to downloading it in the 7k miles I put on the car. ha

Cant even bother trying the app now since the car itself disabled the battery

Yes, Mbrace E-Call. I'm glad that feature worked as well.

pjd951990 glad to see you survived this, scary. This is one of the reasons I buy MB. Have a few friends that have been horrific accidents and walked away...

Some good friends had a 92 300e, A tractor trailer ran over the entire length of the car in a rotary in Boston... trunk to hood and she walked away. Roof was dented but didn't collapse... They have had benzes ever since.

For a moment I thought you may have been a woman at Sarasota MB I met yesterday, her husband was t boned at 60+ and walked away, car was 2-3 days old... E300.... she was still shaking talking about it... This was their first benze.

I'm glad everyone walked away with minor injuries. Scary stuff. I sent this thread to my wife telling her this is why I wanted an E class for the family.

On a side note (and this might sound crude) but it pains me to see that center console trim most likely going to the junkyard lol.

I find it hard to believe that the jerk was not given a breath test. Was he arrested? Charged with drunk driving? If not, you should scream like a banshee to your local officials and press.

Direct quote from the officer at the hospital after I asked what the driver of the other vehicle blew "Well, I smelled alcohol on his breath too. But then it went away so I did not administer a sobriety test" driver of other vehicle was also dressed up in costume and headed out for halloween. Was not arrested or any other criminal charges. I do not know about traffic charges yet, as I haven't been able to get a copy of the police report but am expecting to receive a copy today.

I've worked closely with police agencies and cop unions for nearly 50 years. That sounds like total bull**** to me — like the cop knows the guy or something, or maybe he's just lazy. Definitely would be considered a dereliction of duty in most departments, grounds for significant discipline if not discharge, especially considering the severity of the accident — damn lucky neither of you were killed!. You should scream VERY loudly to your elected representatives.

I 100% agree, welcome to Birmingham AL but the fact of the matter is at this point it really doesn't matter and there isn't anything I can do. It will end up on record that this happened and the conversation and statements made by the officer will end up getting to the right people via a deposition or another similar route. Regardless it will all pan out and there is nothing my wife and I can do except hope for the best results and to regain full function of our daily lives and for our everyday life to get back to normal hopefully within the next 60-90 days.
