DYI Newbie Advice
Hello,
I want to start doing regular service interval maintenance (oil change, brake replacement, starter battery replacement, ATF change, etc.) on an E450 wagon that will be under warranty for at least next 4 years. Would a subscription to WIS + EPC from MB's own site www.startekinfo.com be enough for such jobs? Will I need anything else to have clear and correct instructions with part references? Thank you for your time!

What year is the car? While Star Tek is good, you can get a knock off copy for about $8 on eBay which is basically the same as the one you linked to except it's not $60 for one day access. The WIS mentioned is up to date as of 9/2019 but their EPC is older 11/2018. You could do Epc-net if you need parts lookup for a newer car and that's only $75 for a one year subscription. You probably don't really need it though, anytime you order parts, just include the VIN to make sure you're getting the right part for the car.

I have a 2020 E450 wagon order pending and a 2017 GLC300. I was thinking of getting a week-long subscription to WIS from MB itself to pull all the info I need. From reading about others' experiences, it appears materials sourced from eBay have the downsides of complex installation (and suspect PC security) and older data. Even if I pay $160 for a weekly WIS subscription + $75 for EPC, that will pay for itself after a couple DYI jobs on two cars. Unless I need some other source (do I need StarFinder?), this hassle-free path looks reasonable for a rolling start in DYI mechanicdom. Am I missing anything? Thanks!
