THIS is why I have a spare!

Last Friday, hit a pothole on Rte 2 by Exit 50 Eastbound. I even have it on video from my dashcam!

Yep, even with run flat tires there is nothing you can do. The rigidity of the run flat tires combined with larger rims and low profile tires will do that to you. I have the 17” rims, not as attractive but ride quality with non run flat tires and peace of mind in NJ with those potholes is well worth the trade off.

Any problem getting 17" rims to fit around the brake calipers? The clearance seems tight, even with 18" rims on the front.

I have the Luxury model and they came with the car so no issues at all. It has been raining for a couple days now and wheels are dirty but take a look

So what are you going to do? I'd get it bent back myself. Local guy charges $95 to bend back a wheel. Had him do 3 so far on my two cars. It's been a few years and they've been fine since. I don't think you'd find those rims on eBay for less than $200 a wheel, they're probably more but I haven't looked in a while.

Seems to me that bending and then unbending a wheel would severely weaken the metal of the wheel.

i dont think it can ever be straightened back to a 100% neither. So you might still feel it, unless you maybe throw it in the back? Comes down to how sensitive you are.

They use a torch to heat the metal to bend it back. As for weakening it, maybe but it's unlikely that you'll hit a pothole again in the exact same spot. As I said earlier, I had 3 done and they're all still fine for now. First one was probably over 4 years ago. As for it not being 100%, guy uses some sort of machine to form it back and then balances the tire afterwards so that it's smooth. It's pretty common to get them bent back. You can buy refurb oem rims on eBay also, they probably do the same thing if they got bent ones. But the refurbs are nicer, they clean up the wheel so it looks brand new.

I have purchased an OEM refurbished from Autorimshop on eBay and it was like brand new. I have it as my full size spare wheel in my trunk. I would definitely recommend them any day. They are in Long Island NJ and received it in a day to NJ.

Not worth the potential risk of weakening the metal to save 100.00!

My rim new was $850 from the dealer and I paid a fraction of that for the one I purchased from eBay
