Tint / Radar questions
Hi Everyone!
About to take delivery (see signature) and had a couple questions...
1. Tint -- Definitely going ceramic, 30% sides and back + windshield for heat rejection. Dealer said that only LLumar is recommended by MB due to interference with antenna, etc. I know Xpel XR+ is also an excellent film so wondering if that is true?
2. Radar/Dashcam -- want to hard wire a radar and dashcam and am going to purchase the escort combination below...anyone tried this? https://www.escortradar.com/collecti.../ixc-m1-bundle
Would you be comfortable having a reputable 3rd party do this work or only the dealer? I just want to avoid any electrical/tech issues with the new car but also don't want to pay a dealer premium...I'm in Tampa, FL area

1. The kind of tint you use is not really going to matter, but I wouldn’t go to Wal-Mart and just buying anything either. I have no idea what my guy used but I have not had a problem other than the garage door opener (external one and not the MB one) not working as well in my MB car with the ACP. My GLE doesn't have ACP and the opener works a lot further away than the one in my E class with ACP. Again, I’m using the garage door factor opener and not the MB on installed in the car. I haven’t noticed any other interferences either with any other “antenna” in the car either. Both cars are also equipped with a similar radar detector.
2. That looks pretty cool and I might have to upgrade to it when my new GLE gets here.
As for 3rd party people working on my car, I just would make sure it is a reputable company (they been in business for awhile) and you can always ask for a copy of their liability insurance before you hand them the keys.

I have the Llumar Stratos Series ceramic tint on all the windows of my 2018 E400C. Very happy with it. BTW, it was installed by an shop that specializes in tinting, and I would not consider going to someplace like Was-Mart or Sears to get such work done. The shop i used guarantees one-time free replacement in the event that I am ever ordered to remove some or all of the tint, which according to the shop owner he has never had to honor in 25 years of business — it's just not enforced here, as is apparent from the large percentage of cars with tinting on all windows, including the windshield, some of which are nearly black.
