pothole/TPMS

Yesterday, I drove over a pothole at about 45 MPH. Right after the tire pressure graphic shows up (on the instrument cluster) with the numbers in 3 corners in red and little x's next to them and the tire pressure warning light comes on. I scroll over to Service and then to Tires to see the same graphic with the tire pressures and 3 x's. I scroll down and it asks me "Use Current Pressures as New Reference Values?" I accept and it says "Tire Press. Monitor Restarted" and the tire pressure warning light goes out. The tire graphic with the same 3 little x's and red numbers show up again, I redo what I just did and and then it all goes away. I drove for maybe 5 miles after and it did not come up.

Has this happened to you? I'm wondering if driving over the pothole just jiggled the TPMS tech and it needed rebooting or has something broken and I should take the car in to have it checked out?

Thanks! Stay safe!

did you check actual tire pressure?
Did you possibly lose pressure suddenly when you hit pothole?

MAybe hit so hard TPMS battery connection was interupted?

by using current values- you are stating that you are fine with it (even though it may be below what it should be). what is the pressure stating today? is the one tire much lower than the other tires?

Thank you for the replies. Did not manually check the tire pressure. I have not been able to get out to the parking garage today so don't know if the 3 tires that had errors are running low. When I turned the car off, (about 20 min after the pothole) TPMS showed 29 psi in the 3 tires - those were the values I accepted and 30 psi in the tire that did not have an issue. I will get to the garage Monday and hopefully I do not have 3 flats.

You should never just go and accept the current values and reset the TPMS, especially not when the tires are warm. Only reset the TPMS when tires are cold and after you've manually checked the pressure in each tire and made sure they are correct. It's possible that due to the impact some of the air got out of the tire and the sudden loss triggered TPMS. Generally, TPMS doesn't alert unless you are 20-25% below reference as required by law. Definitely go out and check all four tires, adjust if necessary and then reset the TPMS again. Make sure you visually inspect the tires for possible bubbles or other damages.
