Removing B pillar interior trim

Hi All,

since the interior trim on the left side pillar is scuffed, I have puchased a new(used) piece. Does anyone have some schematics on how to remove/replace this part?

thanks in advance!

Just replaced it today. Getting the trim off was fairly easy. But when I got to the getting the seatbelt out I was at a loss. First thinking about taking the whole belt out(with the automatic tightner-thing) but then I thought it might be easier to take just the one part that was attched to the seat. When I got the plastic part of I was met with some odd clamp I had not seen before... I assumed that I needed to pry that of and get to the 60 torx(which was what the other stuff was attached to..) but after about 5 minutes og looking at it, it occured to me that the clamp was something that just held it in place, and that it could be just lifted out with ease:-) whole project took about 30 min, but if I should ever do it again - it will only take me 5 min.

now my car looks new(the part was badly damaged)

cheers, Jake

On the schematics that konigstiger has attached its #7 dont mess with the mechanics attached to the side, just unclamp the seatbelt from the part attached to the seat. Its a little clamp that is tension-loaded so it cannot unclamp itself, but you can unclamp it by hand. Once that is unclamped… you can feed the belt through the pillar part

Then they have made it a 100 times more complicated. Did you remove it with tools? As no tools are neded to unclip seatbelt on mine. The belt is attached to a metal piece that has a simple “eye”

yeah the trick was to remove the small bolt right where the belt attaches , slide that bracket out , then unclip the belt. The belt is attached to a u shaped bracket where you need to pull it down and then out once the plastic bracket is removed. Still simple if you know what to look for - I finagled for a minute and it came right out as well. Removed more trim than really needed in the process - just needed to pull the door insulation back and the thing popped right out.

I think you have over complicated it… there is no need to use any tools, it can be unclamped with your fingers… and its not the part on you pictures. That looks like part that is located behind the actual pillar trim… the easiest way to de-tach the belt is on chair part.

but as long as you got it out, thats the main thing. Congrats

what year is your car?

those parts are on the seat itself - my car doesn’t look like the pictures in the service instructions. It’s a 17 with P2 package

I’m facing the same dilemma, I have the weirder U shaped bracket that isn’t pictured in the instructions. I’m supposed to remove the bigger bolt that tightens the whole assembly on? And then unplug it to be able to feed it through the b-pillar trim so I can remove it entirely and replace it? I just want clarification before I go unplugging things to the seatbelt, thanks.

When removing the bottom part of the B Pillar trim, be very careful of the tabs. I have broken two trim pieces and had to get new ones because the outer most right plastic tab is held in by hopes and dreams. Honestly don't know what Mercedes was thinking when it came to welding that tab so thinly.
