MB navigation - not working

No, we're not sure about how Mitsubishi implemented it. It's possible for them to use the car's GPS hardware in COMAND or the phone's GPS chip, but nobody here has devised a definitive experiment to be sure one way or the other.

Just checked the SW version in my car, its 16/26.00
Is that the latest navigation version?
(Asked the MB dealer to upgrade the navigation SW and map last week, but no idea if it was done or not)

That would also block Wi-Fi and cellular data, so Google Maps and Waze would be dead in the water. I suppose you can download an offline area for Google Maps and see if it still navigates with the GPS signal to the phone completely blocked.

Just got around to digging up some actual information on the inner workings of CarPlay from Apple. The below link is Part 1 of a presentation into the workings of CarPlay straight from Apple. Around minute 12:48 she explains the car sensors and what is sent from the car's head unit to the iPhone and as I said, GPS location along with speed information is sent from the head unit to the iPhone. She says that if the car is equipped with GPS, the CarPlay implementation is required to send location information to the iPhone, although the corresponding slide says it's required for wireless CarPlay. I guess the final piece comes down to MB's implementation to confirm that COMAND is indeed sending the correct car sensor data to the iPhone. I think everything that's been said is partially correct. The iPhone uses its own GPS, but can improve accuracy by using location information from the car's head unit if available. That's provided MB or better Mitsubishi Electric has implemented it properly on their end.

Just updating everyone... had my car sit for five days and when I got in the navigation worked again and has been for the past 4 drives.
so im down to some on and off error - the same as the aux. battery failure that has corrected it self 4 times now in the 3 months I have owned the car(w213 from 2016 so bought used)
so as of now the car has no faults... and I didn’t do anything

Hi all, as some of you have read from my other post, I have an issue with the aux. battery failure warning showing from time to time. Last time it showed the navigation went shot and does not show the car in the correct place. Now the aux. battery failure warning is gone again but the navigation is stil shot.
When I get into the car. Its positioned incorrectly(but different everytime and still somewhat close) when I drive it does not actually move but it like “stutter” moving a quarter of an inch and then resets to the beginning - like a half of second and then resets Mercedes Navigation Not Working: How to Fix?. (Maybe similar to an old record which is stuck in the same groove) Meaning it does not move anywhere from the initial wrong place under the whole trip.
Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?
Also I have a general question regarding the navigation audio instructions. It seems like its set to default to be at sound level 27 - is there anyway I can change this other than altering it everytime? I like it at 15-20 but it will not save it!

also can any body tell me what the latest maps are for a 2004 s280 please it currently has this on the disk that came with the car,
command aps
A211 827 68 59
B6 782 34 89
EUROPE
Navigations DVD COMMAND APS version 5.0
i was wondering if it needs updating or maybe the gps has stopped working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Totally forgot about this thread.
The navigation got fixed by replacing the gps antenna in the left mirror.
Aux battery also got replaced. Both has not said a wrong beep since the fix, which was done a few weeks after my last post in this thread.

i would have said to see if you were getting ANY GPS satellite locks by going to your compass in the navigation, there it shows you how many GPS satellite it is tracking.
In my 18 E63s.. it showed zero BUT interesting enough, it would still attempt to track placement on the NAV map.
Anyway long story short, the GPS antenna was split in half and the diagnostics showed Open circuit to the antenna... replaced the GPS antenna and it acquired 12 satellites. All good now.
