Agreed. I remember the first time I heard an E300 as I was walking past it in a parking lot. It sounded like a bucket of bolts. It is actually quite amazing how well that engine hauls around an E Class sedan, but I really found the sound to be a turn off.

Thank you for this post. I was wondering exactly as to whether you could still hear the engine noise of the E300 with the acoustic package.

On a side note, I drove a Bentley “New” Flying Spur a few months ago and did not care for the ride of their air suspension as I thought it too billowy, for lack of a better term. That car sort of floated over the road. The wagon has none of that and really has a good road feeling, while still being very insulated from road imperfections.
Thank you for this post. It sounds to me like one could come close to creating a shortened S class with your configuration.

I don’t know the answer to that. I looked at the E sedans and it’s not there either. They may have made it an “SPC” or Special Order option. That said, the MBUSA site is truly crummy and I wouldn’t be surprised if they just carelessly left it out. It shows as available on the GLE SUV.

What engine is in your E-class? Once mine warms up the sound is much better even if I stop and start up again 15 mins or so later.

A salesperson at my local dealer said the acoustic components come standard on all E Class. True?

There is no "4 pot" sound while driving the E300. Maybe the fake v-6 sound or the car's natural insulation or else the refinement of the engine -- but there isn't some sound to detect while driving or while being a passenger. There's nothing I've experienced while driving the car that reminds me of the engine size -- well maybe the fuel economy. In fact, the driving experience is quite the opposite. I've mentioned this before that the engine in the E300 was selected as Ward's Engine of the year Premium 4 Cylinder Engine Does Everything Well.

Hey Randy, my wife just retired at 06 w/37 years, prior enlisted. We actually met while enlisted in Germany.
The V6 in this E car is not that impressive at all. There is a lot of waiting for boost to build and something to start happening and the chassis is not that sporting. You have to keep it on boil to really feel like it is "fast" which requires Sport+ mode and that makes the car ride like junk and high idle speeds. Its really best for some freeway on ramp blasts and thats about it.... Save the cash and get the 300/350, you'll get better mileage too.
I would not get the Acoustic package either. I'd be surprised if there was 1dB difference from the standard car and its a moot point with the run flat tires because they inject enough harshness thru the chassis to negate any acoustic benefit...and there is zero additional heat reflection if you are parked in the sun for more than 15 or 20 minutes.
A lot of Emperor has no clothes in my opinion.

Thanks, Frank. Good info. I hope to take some test drives soon. My neighbor just brought home her new E350 and she is very happy with the 4 cylinder. She has the luxury model and says the ride is decent. Don't think it has the acoustic option but she says it does have the Premium 2 package whatever that is.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
I feel the opposite like a night and day difference between the 4 and 6 cyl. IMO I'd spend the extra money and go with the 6 but thats just me. I feel the 3.0 TT 6 has all the power your ever gonna need whereas the 4 is lacking on top end power, it pulls good down low but thats about it.

It’s all about the experience. The 4-pot will move the E Class just fine, but the six will do it much better and much NICER. You can get an E sedan that is a basic, bread & butter, commuter car, OR—and this is one of the great features of the E Class—you can option one to be what I feel is a full blown luxury car. IMO, going with the six over the four is the first step in that direction. A better leather interior, air suspension, Premium Pkg., etc. is the icing on the cake!

Wagons are just SO ugly! Yeah, right!

I looked at the US website and it says that the Acoustic Comfort Package is an option for an AMG E53 and AMG E63S, but it is not listed at all for a E350, E350 4Matic, or E450 4Matic.

I guess Daimler feels they need to reduce the noise from those AMG engines.

I found this car in Atlanta. https://www.mbusa.com/en/cpo/invento...17015#features
If my X5 lease was up, I would be very interested. It says it has the Acoustic & Comfort Package. I guess they dropped it for 2020 or hopefully made it standard. Anyone know for sure?

AFAIK it is a special order item.
