Power Steering Malfunction
I have a 2017 E300. Just this evening I came back to the car in the parking lot of a shopping mall ; started the car to go home, then voila "Power Steering Malfunction" Stop the Vehicle Immediately showed up. Steering became very stiff. I put the vehicle off for around 5mins and tried again repeatedly, same issue. I had to abandon the vehicle and went home by Uber. Anybody know if there is a recall on this issue? Any similar experiences?

I have. The dealer said the Steering Column Assembly has to be replaced. I find this rather strange for a vehicle not involved in an accident, but seating at a Parking Lot?

Keep in mind that steering is primarily electric with some mechanical components.

Yeah, so it's failure should most likely be electrical rather than mechanical (requiring replacement)?
