Software glitch? Heated seats shut off if car put in reverse

This has to be a glitch, as there's no way in heaven that this is somehow a feature.
1) start up car
2) put seat belt on, of course
3) put seat heater on
4) put car in reverse
5) seat heater immediately SHUTS OFF ?!?!?!?!?
This happens on both the driver and passenger side seats, every single time. Took me a few times to figure out why my heated seats weren't working after turning them on.

Good question. I've only confirmed at start-up so far. If I have my wits about me at the end of the workday today, I'll endeavour to check and see what happens later in the drive.

Update, only seems to happen at start up. After the second time I activate the heated seats, they seem to operate properly, and don't shut off the next time I put the car in reverse. Still haven't checked to see if this impacts rear seat heating. It was a long day at work yesterday, and the brain was too fuzzy to remember to check that out.

I went through an issue last year where the passenger seat heat indicator would blink and then abruptly shut off after running for 45 mins. And once this occurred the seat wouldn't reheat until the car was restarted. The dealer replaced the heating module and recommended that the highest setting not be used continuously. Apparently it was overheating. Instead once the indicator shifts from High to medium, wait until it switches from medium to low then select the medium setting. This appears to be a work around for the overheating risk. Note this problem doesn't exist on the driver side and it has never happened on any other vehicle I've ever owned.
