... and then enters the wristwatch. You cannot get around that there is no highend digital wristwatch that comes close to a highend analog wristwatch.
So you might have one for sport activities, but when your out and about, my guess is that most people that shell out for a an expensive car also likes expensive watches... and will wear those.
I would rather have one Audemars Piguet than 500 apple watches

My W212 has the clock. While I like it, to be honest the cellphone mount obscures most of it from the driver's seat. My wife cannot see it (at all) from the passenger seat.

I hate any sort of jewelry and like an above poster said - if it can't remind me to stand up, track exercise, show me my to do lists and messages.. not interested in wearing it.
I like the way the analog clock looks in my W212 and in my Porsche, but I never really use them. CarPlay is always active in the Mercedes and I glance at it, and the Porsche displays the time in the gauge cluster.

I like analog clocks, have several in my home including a huge grandfather clock in the living room and a mantle clock in the family room. But I also have a slew of digital clocks throughout the house, mostly on various electronic devices but also on clocks that coordinate with either the Internet or satellites to show the exact time, which is helpful if not essential for a number of things, and they're also easier to read in the dark. Nonetheless, I still like "real" clocks. However, as for the analog clock in my 2018 E400 Coup, i think it's too small to be of much use, particularly because of where it's located. Yeah, it's sorta pretty (not really — looks kinda cheap to me, like an afterthought), and I would actually prefer a well-located, easy-to-read digital clock.

One can understand and appreciate precision craftsmanship without desiring it.

To me, that one is easy. "Knobs and dials" are mechanical, bulky, weighty, prone to failure. "Digital Controls" are conceptual, smaller, lighter weight, less prone to mechanical failure. Since smaller, lighter, more reliable are all desirable attributes, it makes sense to me that car manufacturers pursue them. Not only for manufacturing sake, but to satisfy govt. requirements,

I can't believe this comment made it by without any reaction. Best comment in this ridiculous thread.
Yes, please add another useless menu button. I still can't get over the AC review menu item in my e450. That air flow diagram is even more useless than the analog clock.

We're not discussing haughty wrist watches. We're talking about a simple, no-name clock in the dash. So let's not start a "my **** is bigger than yours" discussion, please.
My W212 has the clock. While I like it, to be honest the cellphone mount obscures most of it from the driver's seat. My wife cannot see it (at all) from the passenger seat.

QFT. Did the menu button once have a more useful function that has since been superseded, or has it always been pointless? Or maybe it's more useful on a really stripped down version of the W213? Maybe the taxi version?

It brings us the sync option if you have the three-zone climate control. Otherwise it's useless.

When my phone sits in it, it blocks viewing part of the analog clock in the dash. (Shazam... I can't take a pic of the phone in the holder when...)
There are other threads specifically named for high end wrist watches. This thread is about the center clock that some like, others don't.

There are other options (like Focus/Medium/Diffuse and Air Balance) if you have 3-zone and Air Balance when you push MENU up. If you have residual heat option, it's triggered by pressing MENU down. It's just that most cars have none of these options and the manual doesn't explain any of this. Focus/Medium/Diffuse is in the manual but it doesn't mention you need 3-zone climate control for it to work. I remember hunting for it when I first got the car.

In older models SYNC allowed syncing with the rear in 3-zone, but in the 213 SYNC is just for front left and right and a menu item is needed for rear. To make this simpler, they added the MENU button as a short cut to the climate menu.

Sort of.,
To be clear, we were discussing why Mercedes would eliminate it. Aside from it's functionality (telling you the time in an old fashion sort of way), it adds a touch of elegance to the acclaimed W213 interior...AND, it is already there! Why remove it? Isn't it still in the cheaper and less desirable C Class?
