Hardly!
No actually I do get the point and perhaps you do not:
Mercedes sells less than 3,000 E class wagons per year - less than 1% of their sales.
Any other manufacturer would have long ago discontinued this model for lack of sales.

In the US, Mercedes SUV's outsell wagons almost 50 to one.
With this small volume of sales, be thankful for whatever E class wagon Mercedes offers!

"ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported Q4 2020 sales of 78,078 Mercedes-Benz models. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz Vans recorded Q4 sales of 17,228, bringing MBUSA to a grand total of 95,306 vehicles for the quarter, a decrease of 8.9% over the comparable period last year. On a year-to-date basis, MBUSA recorded sales of 274,916 Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles and 50,999 Vans. This brings MBUSA’s total year-to-date sales to 325,915 units, a decrease of 8.9% versus 2019."
I also assume you know that most Mercedes wagons sold in Europe are A, B and C class. Very, very few are E Class wagons.

There are less than 3,000 E Class wagons sold in the US.
There were over 16,000 S Class and derivatives sold in the US and over 20,000 GLS = over 36,000 or 12 times the number of S Class and S Class SUV than E Class wagons.

I've never liked the station wagon concept. It is nothing more than a scaled down truck. My first exposure to a wagon was the '47 Ford wagon. It was almost identical to the'47 Ford panel truck. Things have not changed much. GM and Ford both produced trucks that were similar to the wagons they made. When I see a MB wagon, I think it is a disguised truck. The epitome of ugly! Ugh!

In 2001 I bought a E 55. I still have it with 170,000 miles by the way.
In that year I think there were only 500 E 55s imported into the US. Fewer than the number of station wagons sold last year if I understand the numbers correctly.
My point being that just because the number of cars being imported are small it does not necessarily follow that the car should be discontinued.
Part of what I like about the wagon is not everyone has one.
Just my two cents.

Wagons (or the so-called Combi or Estate) in Europe are very popular. MB will continue to produce the wagon for that market I am sure.

It costs a lot to change a vehicle to another country’s standards. Yes, MB sells many times as many wagons in EU then it does in the US, but that does not prove that they will continue to sell it in the US. In fact, IIRC, in Europe there was an All Terrain and a regular version of the pre facelift E Wagon just like there is now, but both then and now the US only got one version. If it sells poorly in the US, no matter how well it does in Europe, they will axe it for the US market. Currently, they’ve kept it alive because generally it has been a vehicle that has kept the loyal fans loyal to MB (they like MB because of the wagon but while they’re at it get an S and a GLC and an AMG GT) but some suspect that the All Terrain will spell the end of the loyalty for some of those customers.
