Replacing Pads,OEM Rotors
Hi,
I have a 2019 E450 with the drilled rotors and AMG style calipers.
I have been getting a lot of squealing lately with only 25,000km on the car.
on my previous w204 I had excellent success with Zimmermann rotors and Car Quest Platnium ceramic pads.
my rotors are still in good shape no damage and smooth I’m going to take everything apart this week, lubricants and investigate but I’m wondering can I replace the OEM brake pads with aftermarket ceramic pads and keep the OEM rotors?
I get that these “high performance” brakes love to squeal but It’s making me crazy and I’ve had enough. It didn’t do it from 11k until the last few weeks where it’s become a every trip type thing. Even after I warm them up it still doesn’t help.

My advice would be to take apart, clean everything and then replace with a tiny smear of copper grease on the pad/caliper mating surfaces. I took mine apart and cleaned all of the holes which were full of brake dust and this reduced the the dreaded wheel wobble under gentle braking.

I just do several full g stops from high speed to heat the brakes. Make sure the braking is hard enough to trigger the anti-lock braking function. This procedure seems to clear debris from the pads and rotors which seems to eliminate squealing for a few months. Give it a try.

Hi,
I checked the pads and they are still good.
however I noticed there was no lubrication anywhere, everything was bone dry. I removed the pads cleaned them, cleaned inside the caliper and now will see if this helps. The fact everything was bone dry I’m not surprised that some squealing could have taken place.
hope this fixes it.

Well took it for a long drive and it was good initially and then after an hour the squealing came back.
It wasn’t *as bad* as before but still there intermittently. When lightly pressing the brakes to stop.
I also have a chirping noise like the pad is every so lightly touching the rotor while driving and it’s also intermittent.
I can’t take it to a dealer because it’s so intermittent.
ugh
