GPS issues - new E350

Hello all, I just took delivery of a 2021 E350, great car overall but I've just found some issues with the GPS, I'm wondering if anyone has a fix for or if this is just poor design:

1. For my final destination using the GPS, the car just leaves me to the middle of the road, it does not tell me if my destination is on my left or right. It just leaves me hanging there in the middle of a major road. Surely this is not working as intended?

2. The compass marker that tells you which direction you're driving in (i.e. NW, S, etc) disappears when you have a GPS destination set. In all my old cars, the compass marker was always there, either on the dashboard or in the rearview mirror, regardless of what GPS settings. How can I set it to always be there?

I really hope I'm missing something here, otherwise I feel like my phone GPS would be far superior!

Thanks.

1. Yup, although I don't have an E (but what you experience is the same as what I experienced in my C), I test drove an E before and played around with the infotainment, can confirm it doesn't tell you if your destination is on the left or on the right on the map, as for why MB decided this is a good idea, it is beyond me. However, if you have voice guidance on it will saying something like "In 100 metres, you would arrive to your destination..." then finally it would say "Your destination is on the right (or left)" I always thought the direction the destination flag is pointing indicates which side is my destination but it turns out that it is random.

2. I don't remember seeing the compass being persistent when navigation is active, let me check it again to make sure

However, your car has MBUX since it is the facelift E-Class, so the information I provided might not be applicable to you unless MB really didn't change it for their newest infotainment system. Since your car has MBUX, I want to ask to make sure that you already checked all settings in the navigation menus?

Yup, just use Google Maps or Waze to be honest since it has live traffic (although most new MBs come with 3 years of live traffic)

I noticed this too on my 2018 E300 -- but as soon as I turned on the voice guidance, it did announce left or right just as you said. I can't speak to the compass however. I also don't know a thing about MBUX -- as a matter of fact, I don't even know what it is, LOL. Thanks for the information.

No worries. MBUX stands for Mercedes Benz User Experience. It is their latest infotainment system. W177 A-Class was when it first appeared. Now V2.0 is used in the W223 S-Class and the W206 C-Class. The facelift E-Class gets MBUX 1.x
