Hello - After going through several threads on this one, I still have a question. Is the COMAND self-updatable? I have the oldest 00.61 version based on the dealer menu. How can I update this to say 3.75 or 3.80 or higher version? What is the highest version compatible with a 2017 e Class 4 matic?

I know I can check with the dealer, but my car is out of warranty now...

Are there any technical service bulletins that came out with a service which I can ask (report as issue) my dealer to perform that will also eventually update the software?

If I can self update, where to get this firmware and how to proceed? Many thanks!!

Simple things like my interior lighting is way too dim and I read elsewhere that the update can bring it back to life.

What else am I missing from the updates (Are there release notes somewhere)? Many thanks!!

Comand is not self-updatable and an official mercedes deler will not update(or state that there are no updates) unless there is something wrong with the car - and if out of warranty it will ofcourse cost you to get it done. When I asked the official dealer here, they said it could not be done - that I was fully updated(basically they lied or they didn’t knew any better)

I got the 05.80.00.00 firmware version done in November 2020 and there is atleast one that is newer. My car is from may 2016(W213) so as old as the 213’s come.

A mercedes specialest/mechanic did it combined with selling me new maps for the satnav… he has xentry etc. and something like that is needed. I paid roughly $400 for maps + update.

it made my comand like new, before it was buggy in carplay, where it could pixel-bleed
googlemaps after about an hour use… completely gone, works as it should.

it also gave me the option of running mb satnav while having apple carplay running at the same time, this was not possible before(and getting the map running in the right side of the dash condtantly)

those first versions were slow as sh*t,
the update i did back then in 2017 was a huge change
It's definitely worth spending "some" money on it.

thanks... i called my nearby dealer... they are stealers. they would want a diagnostic fee of 268+taxes, and if they only find a issue that requires a software update, they will do the update which will cost another USD 268!! total of 550 or a loss of 268 without any job done!

these guys actually have an attitude over here.

I buy an app or a software, and there is an update - i just either download and install or buy it, right?? and several folks here say that the hardware is compatible... not sure what is wrong with mercedes in pushing these as OTA for 2017 cars...

Due to your car being out of warranty its a risk but if you say your carplay keeps going black while driving they’ll do it. This was ACTUALLY happening to me mid drive and they recently fixed it (for the most part) by doing a software update.

I asked my dealership how much does it cost to update the COMAND, they say around 140 euros.

I don’t know if I can find other dealer that can offer me better price.

Is COMAND update can only be done by Mercedes dealership or just any official Mercedes workshop (I mean independent specialist) ?
