Also, where you store your key fob matters. Leaving it in your car overnight or even on a hook near the car isn’t a smart idea. If the fob is too close to your car, it can continue to communicate with it, which could drain the battery.

They are talking about draining the key fob battery, not the car's battery. Of course if the key fob is constantly communicating, then the fob's battery will die quickly. However, as I pointed out above, the W213 key fob has a motion sensor, and if the fob is motionless for two minutes it automatically turns off. That's mainly to combat the recent relay attacks of cars being stolen from people's driveways by relaying the fob signal from somewhere in the house to the car, but as a side effect it also preserves the battery.

My mistake, did not bother to read the whole article. Below is another article with key fob and car batteries. i am guessing some older key fob do not have motion sensors in the fob. All the reason to spend the money for a 48 volt mild hybrid on my near car, that is if it is still a ICE car.
