Emergency Brake would not release

I stopped for coffee yesterday on my way to golf in my 2021 E-450 sedan. The emergency brake would not release when I tried to leave the coffee shop. I tried every combination of lifting the switch, shifting, braking, not braking, turning of the car, getting out and locking it, etc., that I could think of. The red “PARK” would either be solid or flashing and a red “Emergency Brake See Operators Manual” was displayed on the dash. Calls to Mercedes Support and the local Mercedes dealer Service Center Representative only resulted in recommendations to contact Roadside Assistance for a tow.

Fortunately, I was close enough to the golf course to have my friend come and pick me up in time to make our tee time.

When I returned to the car five hours later the emergency brake released properly when I put the car in gear.

I am looking for suggestions as to what I could have done to overcome this electronic glitch.

i had this several times with a CLA loaner .
i would just start driving and try to releae the brake at the same time
Had to "toggle" sometimes between forward and reverse drive.
not ideal for the car i guess but it always worked (sometimes immediately, sometimes after several minutes)

My E63s wagon did this to me once (I suspect it will again). The only solution was to turn off, exit the vehicle and leave it sit for a few minutes. Came back to it and was able to disable the emergency/parking brake with no issue.

I am currently stuck with this exact problem. The shift-mania method did not work. The lock-sit-wait method did not work. Neither did a battery disconnect/reconnect. Does anyone have anything else to try?

Currently, I am trying a longer sit & wait while I eat lunch.

Thanks in advance

Happened to me 3 times. I did F-R a few times. no luck. Then shut down, then F-R a few times and it worked. Probably has to do with auto stop when backing up. If anybody has diagnosis/solution, please comment. Thanks

Hi

Happened to me already 2 times, in 6 months period.
First time car was on the garage at home. Not a big deal, it started properly the next morning.

The second time, I was out, and it was almost 1AM. I was trying to get home.
Tried everything, after 30 minutes I called mercedes, and asked for support (and someone to take me home).

They took around 15 minutes to have a mechanic return my call. I was still trying, and suddenly, it released and I was able to drive home.

While talking with the mechanic, he told me that this happens when the car is doing a software update.
I strongly refuse to believe that is true - to be honest, I laughed when he told me that !!!

Nevertheless, would also be happy in understanding if there is a way to release the break in this situations rather than sit and wait.
