Strategies to deal with skyrocketing fuel cost

MB’s of all kinds.
When gas spikes we use the CLK350. RWD and gets 30mpg highway. When it’s snowing and need AWD we use the GLK350. Gets around 28mpg if I am VERY gentle with it. Do not leave stuff in car, make trips that you need to make and plan your trips better, car pool if you can? Inflate tires more and make sure car is serviced (plugs, filters, ect)

If the particular gas station doesn't sell a lot of premium or midgrade, then one possibility is that they recently got a delivery of regular at a higher cost to them, and they still had plenty of premium in the tank purchased at a lower cost to them, and are honest about it instead of price gauging the customers. I'd probably avoid pumping at such gas station, though, as the premium fuel is likely old and possibly stale.

Are you guys still using high octane gas, I just fill up and paid $5.30 a gallon for 93 octane. Though about using regular and though better of it. I figure later it would have only save me $8, not worthwhile.

My manual specifically states no less than 91 octane. It even states if you HAVE TO put regular in, don’t fill it and add premium as soon as possible. You may wreck the engine.

I'm just finishing the 1000 mile break-in period for my '22 E 53 coupe.
Keeping the speed no more than 5mph over the highway speed limit,the dashboard stats say I'm getting 23.3 mpg .
So my 6 cylinder car gets better gas mileage then my wife's 4 cylinder Volvo S60.

If you keep using Mobil 1 oil, your actual break-in period will extend to some 30K - 35K miles. The oil is so slick it retards metal part abrasion... all good. You will know all this because at 35K miles, you will achieve your maximum fuel mileage.

I also wonder how big the catch pan has to be if the tank is 20 gallons full. They must be using a rubber plug that fits the hole, with a drain hose already attached through it.

I would imagine having the mild hybrid on the E53 really helps with the gas mileage. If one babies a modern 6 cylinder engine, it can get some pretty good gas mileage but what is the point of buying a E53 if you are going to drive like a old lady.

Glad MB offered a second option for those that doesn't need the power of the E 53, in come the E 450, starting with the facelift as you know the E 450 has the same mild hybrid system just without the E 53 tuning and the supercharger.
