E450 Downpipe Questions

I have a 2019 E450 wagon and I absolutely love it. The one thing I wish it had though was a little more exhaust volume when in Sport +. If my research is correct there is no exhaust flap control on my wagon, it is only on the AMG models so I'm stuck there.

So I wondered about getting a catted downpipe. I THINK it would give me better exhaust sound quality without too much volume, with a little crackle & pop, and no droning. But is all of that true though? And are there other downsides to getting a catted downpipe such as the Redstar or Logos Engineering downpipe? I don't think the Weistec downpipe is offered with cats.

Lastly, will it void the muffler warranty only or will MB say the mod will void other components like the turbo?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Look up the magnuson Moss Warranty Act, they have to prove what you did caused the catastrophic failure, so whatever you do, document it, and do it well.

In addition to warranty coverage, be aware that some factory engine tunes have enough adaptive capacity to handle aftermarket modifications like this, but some don't. It would be a shame to spend the money and get reduced performance, mileage or driveability issues. Changing any of the breathing characteristics on intake or exhaust can sometimes do this.

Thanks to both of you for the feedback. I know of the Moss Magnuson Act in general and the limits placed on dealerships/manufacturers but I have never read any part of it, so I should do that...

I was thinking of going very light on the tuning until warranty runs out so I contacted Dinan about their tuner. Sure enough they do not recommend an aftermarket downpipe with their tuner.

So I guess I am not sure if I prefer a little more power or improved sound. Well both actually but maybe I pursue a better exhaust note for now. With that in mind, does anyone know how the stock E450 engine responds to an aftermarket downpipe? Could it hurt performance as DeereX739 mentioned? And lastly, am I simply wrong, and a downpipe mod alone will add very little to the exhaust note characteristics??

Thanks!
