I am about to buy a set of used 20" wheels (come with TPMS) but I am not sure if programming is needed. I currently have OEM 19" on my 2022 E450 Wagon and intend to buy a second set as summer use. The ideal situation is each set has TPMS and functional when I swap. Can anyone please advise?
Also, my current tire size is 245/45/R19 and the new set is front 245/35/R20 rear 275/30/R20. Does this fit without issue?
Thank you.

I re-used the TPMS from my stock wheels, since the TPMS that came with the wheels (from the prior year S-class) had a different frequency, and thus could not be programmed. The re-used TPMS (in the new wheels/tires) picked up the signal right away, after being driven a mile or so.
Since you have the 20s, they need to be 245/40/20 and 275/35/20 to maintain the same overall diameter. The size you listed is not the right one.

I also checked with the MB dealer parts dept about getting new TPMS sensors, and their quote was $594 (including taxes) for 4 TPMS sensors. I then decided to go the economical route and re-use my TPMS.

So here’s what I did. When the new tires/wheels came in, I got them installed onto the car, by swapping them in and swapping out the stock wheels/tires. Then checked if the TPMS (that came with the new wheels) was able to be recognized by the car…….despite an attempt at programming, it did not get recognized, which indicated that it is of a different frequency.
Along with that, I also decided to replace the tires on the new wheel-set, with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 tires. Since the TPMS in the new wheels did not work, I had 2 options: Either re-use from the stock wheel/tire set, or get new TPMS sensors from the parts department.
In your case, since you are going to maintain 2 different tire/wheel sets, I would check if the TPMS in the new set will work (by swapping it in and seeing if the programming will succeed), and if it does not, then get 4 new TPMS sensors and roll with that……and of course the right tire size.

TMPs are standardized, the E-class uses Schraeder 433Mhz. You can get them pretty much anywhere and they will definitely be cheaper than at the dealer. These will work from Tire Rack: https://www.tirerack.com/tpms/detail...1&autoModClar=

Yeah, makes sense to use the generic TMPS, instead of the MB ones.
To the OPs question, if the TPMS already present in the new tires/wheels are of a different frequency than 433MHz (as I discovered in my prior-year S-class wheels), then I’d just get a new set of TPMS sensors. Else re-use them in your new set. And also obviously, change your tire sizes to the E-class wagon 20” size, which is different from the one you listed in your post.

TPMS versions . . . . '23 S213 A/T vs '20 W222 S-Klasse
"Well, raise my rent" !! .. Having followed suit with sourcing 2020 S-Klasse 19" alloys for our new S213 A/T wagon - The ebay used S-Klasse alloy set arrived just today complete with '20 W222 S-Class TPMS valves. .. Looks like a new TPMS set of E-Class S213 variety is needed. . Damn, thought I was catching a break .... So it's Tire Rack for the generic TPMS sensors and the local tire shop for a speed balance! .. The wagon is finally going to sport silver aesthetic alloy wheels,,, as it should have come from the MB factory..
Thank fellow mate Roweraay for showing me/us the way. (E450 A/T wagon)
