Wiper Blades

What are people using for wiper blades? I just had my car in for a B service and the service advisor flat out told me to get them elsewhere as the dealership's prices were very expensive (his words, not mine...I hadn't even seen the price yet).

So what are you using and where to get them? I'd like to keep OEM unless there's something of better quality.

My car '18 E300 is 6 years old and the wiper blades are still soft, pliable and functional with no streaking. I checked the price on Amazon and it about $13 with free delivery. The set has a 22" blade and a 24" blade.

My last set of Bosch A242S wiper blades, $39.99 at O'Reilly auto parts only lasted 9 months.

I have just installed a pair of HRSNO wiper blades from Amazon that fit perfectly. So far so good. Do not know how long they will last.

Keep in mind that the fitting for wiper blades, 22" and 24" is not standard and not all but only a few 24" and 22" blades will fit. This is the cheapest set of blades I have found anywhere that fits an E Class, 2017 on.

These blades perfectly fit my 2019 E450 even though they are advertised for E53 AMG.

Hopes this helps.

For future use:

Went to Rockauto, put in 2019 E450 Mercedes and no wiper blades came up.

Searched for Bosch A242S and nothing came up.

Can you post the like to your Bosch wiper blades on RockAuto?

Thanks.

I last replaced my wiper blades in December 2021. Try this part no on Rock Auto: 3397014242. When I put this part no. in the Rock Auto site, I get other wiper blades, but not Bosch. They do have Valeo which I've used on other cars, and I've been pleased.

I found these Bosch wiper blades on Amazon, which seem to be the same as the ones I last bought from Rock Auto but at a much higher price:

As I posted, at O'Reilly the Bosch A242S are $39.95, about $14 less than Amazon:

Buying tip: put the blades in your check out basket: wait 48 hours and O'Reilly will send you a 10% off coupon.

Thanks very much JTK. Perhaps this is a foolish question, but I am looking to replace my windshield wipers now. I am a Rain-X guy. Used them for years, different cars/SUV's and have been very satisfied. So, I find out there's no Rain-X windshield wipers for my 2018 E300 (Sport) 4Matic. OK, I got it. So I figured I'd ask here. I found this thread, and it sounds like Bosch is the go-to, recommended, etc. brand. Here's my question -- 22" is 22" and same with 24" -- why is it "that 22" and 24" is not standard and not all but only a few 24" and 22" blades will fit." I've never heard this before. With Rain-X you type in your info, they tell you the size, and it fits.

So, do you have a specific model AND size I should be getting for my car? I will not, under any circumstance use the dealer -- after they just charged me $125 (which is about a half hour labor I think) for the technician, in his own words, to "tighten up the door screw." No grease, no re-hanging the door, nothing but tightening. I say it took 7 seconds. OK, I'll give him 5 minutes. But for this to no be covered by warranty, or be included as a courtesy to them finding a loose screw (because I told them about it and there was service advisory notice on it as well) -- that's pure nickel and dime BS. So, no more with that dealer!

Thanks in advance for the advice on the new windshield wipers!

I use FCP Euro for parts. They have the Bosch and Valeo blades guaranteed fitment. $40.79 and $40.29 respectively.
Bosch

Valeo

They charge for shipping but they've never done me wrong on VW, Volvo, and now Mercedes parts.

Apologies if I'm telling your what you already know, but a few years ago, MB decided the world needed another wiper blade attachment mechanism design -- J-hooks were no longer good enough for "the best or nothing" car company. The length of the blade no longer guarantees fitment. MB is the only supplier of blades for my G550 -- 17" made by everybody, but MB is the only blade with the correct attachment. I buy replacement sets (as in 2 blades) for $42 at autohausaz. It seems no matter what aftermarket brand you buy, they come with a bag full of plastic adapters to convert the blade to whatever wiper arm design your car has. Then the big plastic knuckle adapter collects snow and causes problems. At least the MB OEM part has no adapter and replacement is easy.

Here is the problem: Not all 22" and 24" wiper blades are compatible with the wiper arms for the E class Mercedes. As Streborx correctly wrote, Mercedes in their hubris decided that all the standard connections were not good enough, and designed their own attachments on the end of the wiper arm. As a result only a few wiper blade manufacturers have bothered to produce blades that are compatible with the Mercedes wiper arm. Fewer manufacturers, fewer choices, less competition: result higher prices.

Hope this clarifies.

How are the HRSNO wipers long term now that you had them for a while? They are currently on sale at Amazon for $15 a pair, almost sounds too good to be true.

Thank you.

The initial sweep is good. The return sweep on the driver's side a little bit poor: In a rain they are fine - back and forth without stopping. In a mist, about 80%.

So far no shuddering which happened with the Bosch after about 6 months.

The Bosch were excellent for about 6/8 months but then had to be replaced. I expect longer out of this pair.

Thanks everyone. So I buy new wiper "blades" and they come with the attachment to fit my E300? More complications in my life, LOL. I'll guess I'll just buy the Bosch. At least I know they will fit. I'll treat the glass with Rain-X, and with my ceramic compound where they treated my glass as well -- I'll just hope for the best! LOL. Thanks again everyone!

I would really think twice before I would put Rain-X on my windshield. I use Maguiars Ceramic Wax on my car and the moon roof and side windows.

My experience with letting it cover the front windshield has not been good. I think the blades need a certain amount of friction to sweep away the rain.

Try Rain-X on the a small portion of the passenger side to see how it works before putting in on the entire windshield.

Got it. Will do!!! Thanks.

I used the Rain-X spray on my Rav4, along with the Rain-X wiper blades, and they worked great. Didn't realize there could be a potential issue, but it makes sense. Thanks again!

The blades I linked are listed as OEM and guaranteed to fit. Is it really worth $25 to buy the wrong blades?

Many things annoy me about wiper blades (aside from the 20+ attachment designs). First, they're packaged in such a way that you can't see them without breaking the seal and removing them while in the store (I don't trust the cross reference guides). Then, despite all the ESG proselytizing that goes on in the corporate world, wipers get thrown away -- does anyone recycle them (or the bag full of plastic adapters that you don't need)? The plastic and metal portions don't wear out in a year, but the rubber blade (renewable content) does and is the only part that needs replacement. Yet beam style blades are designed and built as an integral component, so throw all of it away and buy an entire new assembly. Why sell a $7 rubber refill, when you can sell a $40 blade? Enough venting already!

The plastic attachment part failed on my left wiper. The whole blade flew off the car. The wipers were the original set on my '18 E300 and the blades were soft and pliable. I went directly to my MB dealer's parts counter for a replacement set. The cost was $60 and the parts guy installed them immediately. They'll last me at least another 7 years.

If you never use the blades they will last forever!

I am lucky to get 12 months out of a set.

In my experience, dirt is a wiper blade's worst enemy. Keep your windshield clean and your wipers will last a long time.

I use the blades every day because I'm either using the washers to clean the dust off the windshield or it is raining which is daily May - October and occasional November - April. The key to blade longevity is to avoid sunlight exposure and park in the shade.

I last bought Valeo blades from Rock Auto. I am more pleased with them than the Bosch ones I had previously used. And the price is reasonable. Installation is easy once you've viewed the video that is on the site that you scan with your smartphone. I change my wiper blades every two years.
