Hey guys, I recently took my car into the dealer because whenever I would turn or hit a bump I would hear a squeaking noise coming from my driver side front wheel. I did some research and I figured it was probably the ball joint which is connected to the control arm that was going bad.
lucky I have a car shield warranty, I made a claim and they approved for it to be fixed. However they want to fix it with after market parts.
the parts they want to use are.
Mevotech Lower control arm
and
Suspensia Chassis lateral arm or the strut rod
If I did this option the only out of pocket I would have to pay is the $100 decidable for the warranty.
the other option is to go with the OEM parts, which will require me to pay about $300 out of pocket for the parts. And pay about $400 total including parts and the deductible.
my car is a 2017 Mercedes Benz e300, base, rear wheel drive. It has about 92k miles, and I drive it a ton for my job.
The OEM part from Mercedes comes with a 2 year unlimited mile warranty.
while the after market parts come with a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty.
what do you guys think? Is it worth just spending the $400 to get genuine, OEM parts?
or have you guys heard of these part companies, and do they have good or comparable quality to the OEM parts?

Look at the cost over time. Assume that you are keeping the car shield warranty.
With non-MB parts, your max cost is $100 per 12001 miles assuming the non-MB parts immediately after the warranty expires..
With MB parts, your max cost is $400 per every 2 years.
Your driving is average at approximately 13,000 miles per year.
The 2024 US average is mileage 14,263 miles per year according to the Federal Highway Administration.
How many miles are you currently driving now? Is it significantly more than 1,500 miles per month? How long do you plan to keep the car?
Unless you are going to keep the car 2 or more years, I recommend going with the non-MB parts..
Suspensia has a good quality rating and Mevotech has a variable quality rating. http://glennsaid.com/suspensia-vs-mevotech/

I would do the cheaper option. You already have 92,000 miles and are adding a little over 1000 miles per month. Question is, at that mileage and usage, when will the next item need repair or replacement?

The car is driven a ton for work, has high mileage, and needs a repair that will cost the owner an additional $300 in out of pocket cost for the OE parts. In return, the car has an extra year of warranty coverage for a car used primarily to earn a living. I’ll take that deal and go for the OE option, after all it comes with additional benefits.
