E350 seat comfort

I’m 72 and have owned multiple MBs, BMWs and now a Lucid. Without exception MB seats have never been as comfortable as other luxury cars I’ve owned. All of the comments are good, but at the end of the day a MB seat does not match the other aspects of these great cars.

Which is strange after all MB is the executive class so comfort is important. The E class is overall a complete package but it sounds like their seats as you mentioned is not as comfortable.

Honestly sir… now that you’ve said it I might have to agree. I owned the E60 and W211 AMG back to back and the E60 was a better, more natural seat overall. Same with my 2025 Mazda3 that I shortly owned back to back with my W213 “AMG”. It’s almost like the MB seats are a bit unnaturally firm and want to rigidly hold your body in one position (too much contour?) I have to think while sitting in MB seats where I am not afraid to move around and concentrate my weight wherever I want on other seats. My w202 seats were fantastic most likely because softer + less contour. That’s my take.

In the case of the mazda3, they actually went to study human ergonomics when designing the seat (https://www.mazdausa.com/discover/hu...ver-in-control) so I am not surprised, I just find it strange (to learn) that MB has the firmest seat over all the actual German competitors (bmw audi)?

Yeah Mazda is absolutely killing it as of recent. After my E63 blew up (fuel injectors, 1000% my fault for not changing them sooner), I purchased a Mazda 3 with a six-speed manual. It's a fantastic car in every regard and very comparable to the full-scale luxury brands. I can name many things it does better than my 213. I sold it because it just didn't fill the void for a German powerhouse. But anyway, if Mazda with their finite budget was able to study human ergonomics etc. and actually implement their findings, I'd hope that MB would be able to do the same.

Wish AMG offers something stick, sometimes you really miss 3 pedals. Speaking of manual... they were talking about it: https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...ic-type-r.html

Edit: If sticking with German there is the M3 stick.

Surprising how the Japanese seem to be the last ones who care about manuals.

Slightly interesting clip of the W222 massaging seats during development at that timestamp in the video "Designing the All-New S-Class" from MB. 12:24.

There was a big #savethemanual crowd on the internet a few years back, I am not sure why I don't hear about such a thing anymore or I am not looking at the right places.

I think if anything demand for manuals among Gen Z such as myself is going up. Just 5 years ago I'm sure driving a manual at my HS was considered a "lesser" thing, whereas it's a cool thing now, even among more non-car-oriented people. Just imagine a wagon 211 E55/E63 with an OE-looking manual swap with good ratios. It's a picture out of heaven.

My last manual was a 2007 Infinity G35 with a 6 speed. Had a 2000 Z28 with a short throw shifter before that. Both cars were super fun to drive. All my cars prior were manual as well and I learned how to drive in an old Ford pickup with a 3 speed manual on the column. Manuals are fun, but they suck in lots of traffic. Sadly, not many around except for paddle shifting which isn't the same without the manual clutch. Even one of my motorcycles has an automatic clutch with a DCT transmission. Although that is just as much fun if not more then the manual version.

Nice nice. I've had two manuals -- an E60 BMW 550i with a v8 and a 6speed. I miss that car so much. And my 2025 Mazda 3 that I sold off for my W213. It's a bit selfish but all I do in traffic is create a massive gap between me and the car in front, and let it idle in first gear creeping forwards slowly. It always works like a charm and avoids clutching so many damn times. Only issue is when people cut in front, but in Texas that's not annoyingly often as we have 2+ lanes usually. I've never felt any MT regrets creeping through traffic like that.

I've developed techniques to reduce the fatigue of the clutch, but in FL you can't leave any space or someone will squeeze in and everyone behind will be blowing their horns.

One can't even follow at a safe distance or that extra car length will be filled. It seems that spacing is one car length per 30 mph.

2019 E450 Wagon
Same (2019 wagon)

We like to travel around Montana and the western states. Our car has the MB Tex seating. I've found it's not as comfortable on long trips as I would like.
We are planning to take it down the pacific coast highway from Seattle to San Diego. I'm not sure my back can handle such a long trip.
Are there any easy fixes such as replacement seats out there? We love the car but maybe it's not the right machine for what I want.

What's your take on E450 seat comfort?

I have the same issue. I broke my tailbone many years ago, and fell again three years ago and rattled the heck out of my sacrum and tailbone. I start to get fidgety after 45 min. I think part of it is that in the lower models (non-SUV), our legs tend to stick out in front rather than more vertical (shins). I'm just bought a 2017 GLS 550 with 24k miles and am hoping this is better for trips. Just can't fathom giving up my wagon though - it's too fun to drive and gorgeous to boot! I did use a memory foam pad a few times and it works ok but it's sort of a pain to enter and exit the seat without it shifting.
