2017 Mercedes E400 wagon
2017 E class wagon suspension dropping

I left my car for a week in an open air garage that’s covered from the top but exposed to the wind and when I came back to the car the rear air suspension was completely dropped. Not sure if this matters or not but it’s been a cold winter here in New Jersey. I started the car and it slowly brought it self up to level. After driving the car I started to take pictures to track the suspension sag. 24 hours later the car didn’t drop a cm but at 48 hours it dropped a good amount (my guess is 50-70% down). I will attach photos that show this. After this I was sure something is leaking in the air suspension system. I took it to my trusted Mercedes mechanic and things only got more mysterious from there.

When I first dropped off the car he tested everything for leaks and wasn’t able to find anything. He told me he even recalibrated the suspension. He than parked the car somewhere for almost 2 full days (probably less than 48 hours) and called me to come pick up the car because he checked everything and even after leaving it with 2 days he hasn’t measured a drop whatsoever, and he doesn’t want to change the boots if they’re not the issue and I come back again 3 days later.

I’m considering taking it to a dealership for a check but I worry oh how untrusted dealerships are that they’ll tell me more stuff is broken in the car than there really is. I’ve had this experience with them before.

Im curious if anyone else have had a similar experience and how they solved it?!

Important facts about the car:
1- VIN: WDDZH6GB4HA162560
2- Car only has air suspension in the rear
3- I removed an ECU tune for a emission inspection recently and tuned it back on (not sure if it’s related but the timing is sus)
4- As you can see between 1-24 hours no drop whatsoever occurs but than 24-48 drop occurs.

Many (current) threads about this issue. So, chances are very good you have a leaking strut. If you call MB they will say they are not available (they are). While it could be a simple air leak, the past many cars have been struts.....

2019 E450 Wagon
Nothing useful to add other than I had this exact same problem earlier this week. My 2019 E450 wagon sat over the weekend (drove home Friday after work, and did not drive again until Monday morning) and noticed that the rear had completely sagged. By the time I got to daycare drop-off (2 mile drive) the rear was back to normal. It is rare that my car sits that long without driving, and it was cold that weekend, but my car has certainly sat out in the cold a couple days (and in extreme cold for shorter periods) and I've never seen this before. Fingers crossed it was a one off....car has ~60k miles on it, but I do drive on rough roads around Boston frequently.

I have the same car. 2017 E400 with rear only air suspension. I ended up replacing the air springs with arnott and ended up replacing the compressor at ~70,000 miles.
