2017 E300 Starting and Electrical Issues
The vehicle has intermittent starting problems and sometimes does not recognize the key. On one occasion, after driving for 15 minutes and locking the car, it failed to recognize the key about an hour later, triggering the alarm when unlocked manually. After ~6 hours, it finally recognized the key and it started.
This all started after a recent cold spell, the car started but experienced major electrical failures, including the main instrument cluster not turning on, loss of power steering and power brakes, wipers that would not shut off, inoperative turn signals, and the vehicle not shutting off.
The battery was weak and replaced, but issues have persisted since, including the need for jump starts and continued major electrical failures. This seems to happen once every 1-2 weeks. I had the new battery tested and it was fine.
I took it to the dealership to see if they could figure it out.. They reset the computer and performed an ECU recall update, but the problems remain unresolved.
Any ideas on what can be causing these issues?
