Driving Range Diminished on W214 vs W213

I just realized that the driving range of the W214 is reduced by two factors vs W213.

1. The fuel tank is 17.4 gallons W214 vs 21.1 gallons W213
2. For the E450 the combined EPA is 25 mpg W214 vs 26 mpg W213- https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find...46055&id=47578

W213 has larger tank and better mileage.

That doesn't seem like progress and means more visits to the petrol station.

The W214 is heavier that might explain why.

I'm guessing they needed room for all the added technology in the W214 and the fuel tank was a place they could reduce capacity and not take away from the other important aspects of the car. It has a sufficient sized tank for me at 17.4. I did notice that the link you provided says both the 2023 and 2024 E450 have 21.1 gallon tank but looking at the owners manuals, the 2024 says that all models have 17.4. The 2023 owners manual says all models are 17.4 except the E450 which has 21.1. I suspect that site is wrong as the order guide for the 2024 also says 17.4 for the E450. Gas mileage is always a lie and it varies on how you drive the car. A 1mpg difference is not a major difference IMO.

I'll still take the 2024 model over the 2023 and below. It's a nicer looking car and has more advanced tech. The decrease in fuel capacity is less important to me at least. YMMV.

POI: the gas tank on thw W213 for the E300/350 is only 17 gallons. Only the E450 had the larger 21 gallon tank.

Hope this helps
