Why not just wait until the car arrives at the dealer and decide then whether to take the car or not? No reason to burn bridges now.

Maybe I am missing something: How does canceling your order now help you - other than making you "feel good"?

By waiting until the car arrives at the dealer you have the best of both worlds:

  • you can take the car;
  • only take the car if the dealer gives you an allowance for your aggravation
  • tell the dealer to shove it!

Just my $.02

Neither you nor the dealer are notified. Those VDC centers are considered final "assembly plants" - an extension of the factory. So in Mercedes parlance, the car being delivered to the dealer is from the factory.

I am not saying it happens often, but it is not uncommon.
Hope this clarifies
A relative had a minor fender bender with her new car. When she had it repaired she found out that the front end and fender was full of body putty. Ever since then I inspect each new card with a UV light and Xenon light. Even the best repair jobs show up using those lights. At one time I used a small magnet in a sock, but that only works with steel.

I understand your frustration. We live in the Information Age and people expect accurate and timely information, especially as it relates to business and financial matters. Someone or some “system processes” determined the date your car would be delivered—it wasn’t an arbitrary decision. Therefore, someone knows what happened and can communicate it IF requested by the right person.

Sounds like fraud and misrepresentation. New cars should be accident free and if not it should be disclosed and depreciated like any other vehicle involved in an accident. But perhaps the law permits such things and if so that’s not right.

Manufacturers repair cars frequently without disclosure. On the other hand dealers must disclose repairs to "new"cars. The VPC is considered part of the manufacturing process. I think it is because the car has not been sold to the distributor yet. Consumers don't actually buy the car until closing/delivery.
