2020 E450 Wagon
I have a question for you guys, with the 24 MB AT's. I had a 2020 E450 wagon, before the All Terrains arrived in 2021 and I really enjoyed that wagon. I was leasing it and foolishly sold it to my servicing dealer a month before my lease was up. I walked away with $7500 instead of just turning it in but I really regret not buying it out. Five months ago I decided to buy an Audi A6 Allroad Prestige. I liked the look of the car and while the interior is not a nice as the MB, I did like it. The one thing I could never get used to was how soft the full air suspension was compared to my E450 wagon. When I'd accelerate the whole car lurched rearward and the opposite if braking hard, it would transfer all the weight forward. I felt like I was in a boat at sea. After only four months I sold it, considering the cost and how much I was NOT enjoying driving it I saw no point in keeping it. So, after my long winded story, how do you find the AT handles with the full air suspension? Did it also roll around and float over bumps or is the air suspension for the AT better managing those things? I obviously need to do a good long test drive before I order one but would appreciate owners with their feedback. Thanks.

Yes you must.

thanks so much. Great summary of your experience so far with the car. Makes me worry a little less that I won’t like the car or something. I do really like my 213 but the car is 5 years old so time to move on.

Just to be clear, an opinion by definition is subjective. An opinion cannot be a fact. Thanks for the response.

What I meant, was to one person the ride may seem soft and to another firm. One may find the steering tight another loose.

Everyone has different starting points

I understand, I was messing with you with my post, being facetious.

This may be a "subjective" opinion but one based on many years of MB ownership covering most models. These include multiple S Class , G Wagons, E Class wagons, sedans and convertibles as well as C Class AMG cars with two in my possession now. I came out of a MY 23 W 213 AT Wagon that I drove for 20K miles before turning that in for a MY 24 AT Wagon. The handling in all driving modes is markedly improved from the W213. The reason is the W214 is configured with twenty inch staggered non run flat tires. The car is also equipped with every option because it was a launch edition model. The only option it is lacking is the night package and the remote garage door opener located in the rear view mirror. I know, pretty strange. This vehicle does everything right in every driving mode. I strongly recommend that if your E Class is equipped with run flats that you convert to non run flats and carry the Mercedes repair kit provided with non run flat cars. The difference is dramatic. Well worth the cost and inconvenience of the change. The W 213 banged as if hitting the bump stops more often than you would expect. By the way, both cars had the full air suspension package. So this is really an apples to apples comparison. There is way less road noise with the non run-flats and the handling is more compliant especially when pushed through corners. I believe the straight six engine is the best in the MB product line. Smooth as silk and as responsive as you would want for all driving conditions. The W 214 is a delight on the highway and very comparable to an S Class ride. In fact, two aqaintences, both automotive enthusiasts, have purchased W 214 wagons after experiencing my cars qualities. I have put about 5K miles on the car and the only issue (which I have covered on other posts in this forum) is the periodic blackout of the super screen. That issue is currently under investigation by my dealer and is a common defect that occurred during certain manufacturing time frames. As I have mentioned many times in this forum, a fully optioned AT Wagon is as close as we will ever get to an S Class Wagon. I don't miss the bulkiness of my previous S Class cars, especially around town which comprises most of my driving. Don't get me wrong, I still think the S Class is the most luxurious of all MB models but, in my opinion, you aren't sacrificing much with the AT Wagon. The key is the level of options you apply to the build. Yes, those options ballon the price pretty quickly but are well worth it IMO. Hope this helps. Happy Motoring!!

Great write up. My other car is a S class so going between that and the new 214 I’m getting soon won’t be as much of an extreme difference as going between the S and the 213 Wagon.
