Has anyone installed a toll transponder on their W214 E-Class? Possibly someone with the Acoustic package? I looked in the manual to check if they mention which parts of the windshield are permeable to radio waves but I can't seem to find any information on this. I'm trying to install a Sunpass transponder and I've tried putting the transponder in locations other models list but it doesn't seem to be getting picked up by the toll system.
For what it's worth, it turns out that all this time I've been getting charged by the license plate on my Sunpass account and my transponder has never been read (Even on my previous car and I have had this transponder for 2 years, hah). It's possible I have either a faulty transponder or I'm a dummy and just installed it incorrectly and never bothered to verify if it was working. I just saw the charges and assumed it worked.
If anyone can confirm that their transponders are being read on the W214, I think I will buy a new transponder and give it a shot.
Here are the IR transparent locations on the W213. If they're the same on the W214, you can see them by
looking at the windshield from the outside at an oblique angle with a light. FWIW I couldn't find a W214 reference.
I have a W214 and located mine near the top of the windshield as shown in the pick ua549 posted above. I also had it there in my W213 and W238. My W214 has the Acoustic package.
