Is E350 quiet on highway?

I test drove an E350 at a local dealership. They are away from highways so I was only able to drive at about 40mph. I'm wondering if the engine will be noisy on highways at around 70mph (I drive 80 miles on highway daily)? Will E450 be much better in this case?

The 6 cyl engine is quieter than the 4 banger. That being said, IMO tires contribute more to cabin noise at 70 mph than the engine.

I have driven a 2024 E350 over 6500 miles and about 1/3 of that was on the highway at speeds of over 70mph. Super quiet engine and even road noise was low. It can get a little louder when the road surface is not smooth but still pretty darn quiet. I'm normally listening to music at medium levels and only hear the music. As ua549 says, it's more your tires at those speeds where the noise will come from. The engine is quiet unless you are accelerating fast. Overall, the car is super quiet regardless of speed. Very relaxing to drive on the interstates.

I have 20" wheels and airmatic on the E350 I'm driving so no, I don't think they will be noisy. Not that the 19" or 18" options won't be better from a comfort and sound perspective but the 20" wheels are fine IMO.

Thanks. This is very helpful. Did you change your tires? Just wondering if the original tires (18"/19") are on the quiet side.

Oh, I see you are driving 20".

My W213 had 19" runflats. My W214 has staggered 20" non runflats. There is a distinct difference in ride quality and noise. The non runflats being superior in both categories. My suggestion is if you have runflats swap them out for non runflats and invest in the MB repair kit that comes with non runflat units. It is well worth it IMO.

No mention of the Pinnacle Trim option. Pricey, but it lists heat and noise insulating glass. Anyone experience the noise level with that option?

I have the Pinnacle Trim option. The car is quieter than my W213 for sure. I must admit that the W213 was running on 19" runflats compared to the W214 that is running on 20" non-runflats. There is a major difference in interior noise level. It may not be all attributable to the Pinnacle option. My advice is to swap out the runflats. It is well worth the cost IMO. Happy Motoring.

That's the option I have so my stated experience is based on that. Perhaps if you do not have the pinnacle trim with the noise insulating glass and have 21" run-flats but do not have the AIRMATIC package you would have a much louder and rougher ride. I have Pinnacle and AIRMATIC while also running 20" wheels that are not run-flats.

I have that option on my '18 E300. I bought it for the ir heat blocking. Bottom line is that it works. There is also extra sound deadening on the floor. The car is very quiet, but I have nothing with which to compare it.

Thanks for all the feedback on the Pinnacle Trim. I added it to a 2025 E 53 order hoping it's worth the price as dealers have few to no 2024 or 2025 e-classes around me with the hopes of experiencing it.

If you have never driven on 20" wheels, you will feel virtually every little defect in the road. Definitely not a bad thing, though. 18s and 19s are better, but still sensitive.
