All Terrain plastic fender removal

On the E4450 All Terrain, Mercedes have attached plastic fender guards to protect against scrapes while off-roading. They look great, but say I was interested in removing them... for a more E53 wagon look. Are there regular fenders lurking below these plastic components? Or did they put holes in the edge of the fender for their attachment? Interested to know if it is a matter disassembly/modification of the plastic or if body work/painting would be needed for this kind of change. I am hoping that the engineers thought, hey, let's use the regular fender but bolt on a wheel well liner that sticks out. I have been trying to find a diagram and part number for just the plastic fender but haven't found it yet. Thanks for any info!

I'm sure a body shop would be able to provide that info for you. If not for the W214 yet, then take a look at the W213...probably a very similar design

You would need to source new wheels, as the offset for AT wagons allows for a wider track to fill the plastic arches.

Didn't think about wider track width, thanks!

Here are the specs for the rims of the wagon and sedan...
E450S4 (214.265): 8.5J x 19 ET 30
E450W4 (214.061): 8.5J x 19 ET 35.5

Track width is the same for both vehicles, e.g., front (F) 64.1 in

So, the wagon rims stick out 5.5mm more than on the sedan.

Here are the specs for the front tires...
255/45 R 19 and 245/45 R19 for the wagon and sedan, respectively.

So, the tires stick out 5mm (half the 10mm width difference) more on the wagon.

I think this gives us a grand total of 10.5 mm protrusion on the wagon, as compared to the sedan.

Could they be paint matched and maybe look a little bit closer to the classic wagon?
