2024 E350 4MATIC SEDAN. 2021 AMG GLA35

I can't find the thread I read recently comparing the E350 to the E450. It suggested that the E350 did not have an electric AC compressor like the E450.

I had an E450 All-Terrain from 2022 to March 2024 and I absolutely loved that engine so I agree with everything that was said about the noise and smoothness of that engine, and I loved that everything was driven electrically. I got my E350 sedan for a hefty price in early March when no 450's were yet available. I do miss the 450 but I must admit that the performance and smoothness of the 350 is very good (but not the noise unfortunately). But they both have the same mild hybrid systems, so I don't understand why the AC runs differently. I don't use start-stop much, but if I do, the AC seems to run perfectly with the engine paused, or perhaps I just didn't stop for long enough!

Any thoughts?

I believe you are thinking of this post comparing the E350 and E450. I've driven both and put over 6K miles on the E350 and can confirm that the AC compressor does not operate when the engine cuts off when start/stop mode is on. If it's not off for very long or not very hot outside it's not that noticeable but if you have the AC on high because it's hot, its noticeable. The E450 drives the AC compressor off the electric system and doesn't cut off when stopping the engine with the stop/start. I personally do not like the start/stop function and disable it. If you do the same, this difference won't matter much. I don't believe stopping and starting the engine often is good for the turbo so I prefer to disable it. I'm willing to take the hit in fuel consumption for a longer lasting engine.

As far as I understand it, AC continues to run if it is a mild or plug-in hybrid.
Mine is a mild hybridm and AC remains on whenever the car shuts down on start/stop, and it has an option to coold the car with AC remotely (Pre-entry climate control), an option I absolutely love and use it every day during hot summer days.
