E350 vs E450 AC Compressor

I believe you are thinking of this post comparing the E350 and E450. I've driven both and put over 6K miles on the E350 and can confirm that the AC compressor does not operate when the engine cuts off when start/stop mode is on. If it's not off for very long or not very hot outside it's not that noticeable but if you have the AC on high because it's hot, its noticeable. The E450 drives the AC compressor off the electric system and doesn't cut off when stopping the engine with the stop/start. I personally do not like the start/stop function and disable it. If you do the same, this difference won't matter much. I don't believe stopping and starting the engine often is good for the turbo so I prefer to disable it. I'm willing to take the hit in fuel consumption for a longer lasting engine.

The auto stop/start is also there to reduce emissions and contaminants. As you probably know, many cities long ago banned the idling of diesel engines. No matter how clean you make an ICE, it still emits noxious fumes and CO2. Unnecessary idling is bad for our climate. While the amount of emissions per car may be small, taken together world wide, the emissions from unnecessary idling do add up. That is why I use the auto/stop feature on my E450.
