New E450 all terrain - Problems, problems, problems

Got my new E450 all terrain at the end of August
September - hyper screen locks up and reboots. Car spent a couple of days at dealership to be repaired
October - car battery would discharge when vehicle parked. Car spent almost a week at dealership to be repaired
This week - seat heating and ventilation widgets not working correctly or not working at all. Numerous intermittent problems. Car will go back to dealership next week.

I am interested to hear from other owners - Is my car unique having multiple problems, or are other owners also suffering from multiple problems?

Thanks

If you search or look around the W214 forum you will find similar issues in the sedan which tech wise, is identical to your all terrain. I would assume that 90% of new W214 owners do not use this site so hard to know how common these issues may be. Some of the owners reporting these types of issues came here for help as their first post.

The default dealership response seems to be to do a software update which appears to have mixed results based on what you can read in this forum. At least one forum member had a piece of hardware replaced along with a software update. Might be too soon to know if it fixed their problem.

If Texas has a lemon law, I would read it and see if it applies.

A few minor things here and there, but what you are experiencing is not normal.

Just out of curiosity, may I ask what month it was built?

No problems

Had my 2025 E450 for a month. Driven about 500 miles. Absolutely no problems. All my software is up-to-date according to my Mercedes Me app and the car system settings.

Thanks for the reply I am glad to hear things are going well with your car.
I thought all my software was up to date but apparently to fix my battery problem they installed new software (firmware more likely) in a number of the can bus modules. Which begs the question of why would they not have done that before delivery?
I’ve now got 3,500 miles on my car and hoping this is the end of my problems. However, when I asked a service advisor if other similar cars had experienced problems like mine I was told “I was not alone” !

Customer Engineering at its best...

Send the cars out and let the buying public test them for us and find issues.

back to the avoid first model years I guess intil the bugs worked out.

I got my car in June and had to take it in 5 times for one issue or another. Common theme though is that it is mostly software that is to blame.

Last week, I had the Check Engine light turn on, took it in once again and they told me they could not find any mechanical fault. Another update to the ECU and the warning is gone.

At the same time, they mentioned they had 2 recalls (also software related), one to do with the ignition software and another to do with MBUX itself (sorry, do not have the error or recall references).

Let's see how long it lasts this time.....

She’s back at the dealers, hence my response.

Got the all terrain in July if memory serves. Within first week noticed trunk close button not working. Close&Lock worked, but the other one didn't. Dealership said faulty switchgear, fixed under warranty.

Battery went completely dead while the shop was wrapping the car in the satin PPF. fwiw they said they see this happening often with MB vehicles.

Middle of September I get the new iPhone 16 Pro and set it up as a new Digital Vehicle Key, replacing my previous iPhone. Previous phone worked, the new one - doesn't. Car simply doesn't see it as the key.

Last month I noticed rear driver's side door panel isn't sitting flush. I can push it back in, but slam the door a little too hard and the panel is loose again.

This is really the worst built car that I had.

Six weeks in on my all-terrain. Multiple episodes of all screens going full black and having to restart the car. and then today, the main screen goes haywire and every single warning light starts flashing on and off, every audible beep starts beeping, rear camera opening and closing non-stop...

And now the engine malfunction light is on. So she goes back to the dealer one more time.

I picked up mine a couple of weeks ago. I have just over 1200 miles now. Once on a 3 hour drive a “turtle” light came on and it went into reduced power mode. I cycled the key and it’s been fine ever since. Time will tell on that.

My passenger rear door doesn’t sit flush when closed. I’m guessing a simple adjustment is needed.

Setting up facial recognition the process fails. Someone on here said a software update fixed 🤷‍♂️

Small rattles in the front of each door panel over bumps. It’s like a plastic piece inside is hitting. You can tap each door panel by the upper speaker and get the noise to happen.

All small issues on a first model year early build. I’ll address all of the concerns on my first service visit unless the turtle light returns before that.

Overall I’m happy with the car and expected some bugs to be worked out in the beginning.

MBUSA has approved a repurchase of mine and I have started the Sedgwick death spiral of confused/confusing communication.

I think the folks at MBUSA are very aware of the unfixable problems here.

Interesting. My car is going in next week to address the black screen issue. After many discussions with the dealer I'm convinced that 1. MBUSA knows about the problem and 2. There is presently no fix. I took delivery in July 2024 and that seems to be the sweet spot for this particular build problem. We shall see. All discussions have been very cordial (to date). Now looking for results. Other than this issue I am very pleased with the vehicle and have had no other issues.

Did you try doing a hard reset holding down the power button? Sorry you other two have had more severe problems with your cars to the point of buy backs. So far my car has been fine maybe mb did correct the problems as my car was built sept 26th. So perhaps there are solutions. Sometimes it just takes time. I remember with my 2018 amg there were check engine light misfire issues. Took mb around a year to come up with a solution for that issue.

Yes, I tried the hard reset button a couple of times. It was recommended by the dealer. No change. I'm not discouraged .... yet! Thanks for the suggestion.

That is the thing...as a "Tech Guy" I have always disabled every automatic update. Hundreds of times in my life the "fix" breaks so many things. I would assume as soon as the OP has a homeostasis of a working car...turn the updates off.

I have mentioned a few times that a friend who has a Rivian truck updated it....he now has a Rivian brick (for going on a year). Recently we had an "update" to one of or CRT machines. It is a $600,000 brick waiting on a solution (it is in the update.....).

If it ain't broken don't fix it. The rule of thumb is only install software updates in cars if there is something broken or that there is clearly performance improvements in the infotainment and/or new features that are actually useful and so I am not talking about any gimmicks.

One note on mine: I believe it was some kind of 'launch edition' build, not noted specifically as such but the combination of options is unusual (alcantara headliner, etc) and it was an early build.

It's really too bad that every auto manufacturer now has to also be a tech/software company. The death of the mostly-analog E-wagon is a big loss, it has been a unique and great car for a long time.
