Learned something new today (Memory Seats)

So I tried saving my memory seats yesterday and I couldn't get it to work. I thought you were supposed to press the "M" button then the number 1 2 or 3 to save it with an acoustic beep afterwards for confirmation. I checked the manual and I was doing exactly what it said.

I tried again today and it still didn't work. Both times I was wearing gloves while pushing the buttons. Then for some reason I decided to take my gloves off and it worked!

So if you're trying to save your memory seats it won't work if you're wearing gloves.

Is it because it isn't registering the input?

I believe so. For whatever reason Mercedes made them capacitive buttons, but you still have to push them like a regular button. I thought something was broken. I'm surprised the owner's manual didn't mention anything about not wearing gloves when trying to save the memory seats.

I wish there is a feature of which that it increases touch sensitivity, like on a phone when wearing gloves for example.

Yes, all the buttons are capacitive. It's basically one big button that when you push it triggers the action depending on where you place your finger on the button. So it's a combination of capacitive and tactile. Gloves are a no-go, unless you have gloves that have conductive material woven into the fingertips to work with touchscreens and such.

Is it pressure sensitive like the home button on a phone?

You don't have to push it hard. Just push it like a button. As said it's a physical button that does different things depending on where the finger is placed at the time you push it.

I see, that makes more sense.

Very annoying "feature" when driving in winter. If the exterior door handles don't automatically pop out, which happens on occasion, I have to take off my gloves to get them to pop out. Similarly for virtually every feature on the interior. Why should I need to get the interior to heat up (so I can comfortably remove the gloves) in order to set the cruise control or adjust the radio. The touch controls on my very much missed V90 Ocean Race worked very well with winter gloves on.

I'm able to operate all the touch features with gloves. Leather gloves with thin insulation which would be considered driving gloves. I was quite surprised that everything worked. Although, I found the interior and steering wheel heat up quickly making gloves unnecessary for most of my driving. I am in TN so it doesn't get that cold but we regularly get below freezing and occasionally into the single digits in the winter. My wife bought me two different sets of gloves for Christmas. Both work fine in the car.

There are a number of gloves that work with capacitive touchscreens and buttons. They have conductive thread woven in the finger tips. Your wife probably coincidently gifted you gloves that were designed for touchscreens.

Tennesse. OK. I live in Maine with probably a 20 deg average difference in winter temperatures. I do have a pair of driving leather gloves that work. They just don't keep my hands warm for the walk from the back door to the detached garage. As mentioned, my Volvo worked with winter gloves.

Perhaps there is an increase sensitivity option? Like phones?

Perhaps, but every finger works and those gloves usually have only the index and maybe thumb working. Also, such gloves typically have some indication on the packaging of this capability. Mine did not. Still, it's possible.

They are becoming more common and less of a novelty. It's not just the touchscreens in cars, but everybody's phones as well. I'm not sure if they even still specifically advertise it for every glove or if at this point it's kinda expected.

How far away is your garage and don't you have pockets in your jacket? Always wondered about building detached garages in climates like that.

About 100 feet down the hill. I need my arms free for balance when it's snow or ice covered. Only went down 3 times this winter.....
