Angry Rattling Noises

Hi all,

I've recently purchased an E300e and noticing different rattling noises all around the car. I've tried to demonstrate some of them with the video recordings.

1- Front console/Engine compartment noise
- Couldn't fixed it, yet couldn't find the cause of it

2- Engine compartment
- Fixed with a small piece of sponge and tape

3- Engine cover
- Fixed with a small touch

4- Driver seat belt
- Fixed with covering the metal connection point with sealing tape

5- Passenger seat belt
- Fixed with covering the metal connection point with sealing tape

6- Cabin air filter
- Fixed with window sealer around the cover head

I'd appreciate your comments about the first one as I couldn't find the cause of it yet which makes me crazy especially when I'm driving on electric only mode.
Kind regards

For the first video were you driving with the climate control ON? If you were, try driving it again with the climate control OFF to see if it still makes the noise. It sounds like it might be a broken plastic flap (Air director) inside the air ducts, but that's just a guess.

HVAC is off, I also suspect some flaps but not sure. I think the center console needs to be taken off? This concerns me a lot, could lead to additional rattling afterwards.

Rattle noises in a Mercedes? Impossible! You must be trolling the fan bois here.

Nobody at Mercedes cares and nobody at Mercedes is going to do anything about it. Turn the radio up like in a cheap American car.

I've booked an appointment and they'll take out the dash and fix the issue. I'll post the details when I learn more like what was the issue really.

Wouldn't there be a risk of introducing new rattles if they take it apart? It is no longer factory finish.

I had the same concern and asked them about it, they promised to replace every single clip and bolt they touched with the factory ones.

Got the car back from the dealership and they said that the rattling comes from suspension, so now they will change all shock absorbers.

Final update to the thread as it was driving me crazy lately. They finally found the issue right before they took out the whole dash. It was the shock absorber on the driver side, they’ve replaced it under warranty. Dashboard rattling is gone!

I’m glad you manage to address the issue as well! Mine had the exact same problem and it’s fixed past week with the shock absorber change like yours.

Hmmm that means there might be a bad batch, the car is so well insulated it is hard to not notice sounds as they really stand out.
