My Check Engine Light came on twice in the past three weeks. Stayed on for two days each. Gas Cap was tight so that was not the reason though it is most common. I made sure to fill up gas tank again in case some condensation at one of the Suncoco Gas Stations. Light has not been on in past two weeks. I always use premium gasoline. I have my auto going to dealership next week just to do diagnostic checkup. If Check Engine Light is Blinking, then you must ASAP get to dealer. Recent cold weather could have been a factor. Auto only has 3200 miles on it. Engine was running smoothly the whole time Check Engine Light was on.

thank you for reply. Yea I checked gas cap and was good. Car seems to running ok. The lights not blinking. We got a little snow yesterday so maybe that. I don’t know. I’m trying to avoid going to service.

it also sucks that car can’t remote start with engine light on.

Your car should be under warranty so it's free to take it to a dealer. You can also take it to any Autozone or similar auto store and they will scan your car for error codes for FREE. A bad batch of fuel could also cause the check engine light to pop up, but there's so many possibilities that you'd need to have it scanned to know for sure.

thank you. I did get gas 2 days ago. It’s premium and same place I always go to but guess it could be a bad batch.

the car installed update for ‘software for communication module’ yesterday. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. The car doesn’t even have 1,000 miles yet.

Why? If the check engine light was on in my car it would be going to the service department asap.

it stayed on for about 2 days then just shut off. I think I read somewhere that it may have been something to do with the update but not 100% sure.

The software update should not cause a CE light. You should get the car scanned to see if there are any stored codes.

Whatever it may had been seems like it is resolved for OP, we'll see perhaps.

In my experience, these things just don't disappear. There may still be an underlying issue. If it were my car, I would still get it scanned to see what codes are stored. If there was a CE light, it should have thrown codes and they would still be there in memory even after the light goes out.

I mean, yes getting it scanned is not a bad idea. Problem is, the codes get automatically erased, I seen posts of people's vehicle with a CEL and they bring it in, the code is not there and they can't identify the cause, basically the computer self-corrected itself. Specifically on a W206 C 43 and X254 GLC 43. Obviously, chances are the code is still there, so still worth it to get it scanned.

Well, now I have a CEL on. Started today just after I left my house. Will be asking MB to do a remote diag on the car. Car is running fine and everything is functioning as it should. No other warnings other than a TPMS from yesterday that I cleared. I just texted the dealership and they responded (after hours) that they will check in the morning.

My CEL came on last week while on short trip home. I undid the gas cap and left it open for a few minutes. I had about ½ a tank of gas. After I closed the gas cap the CEL was gone next time I started the car and has not come on again. Since it was just a brief, single incident I did not have enough concern to reach out to the dealer but would have had it not cleared so quickly.

My dealership sent me this message this morning. I'm going to bring it in but looks like I need to wait until Labor Day for a loaner car to be available. Hopefully they can fix my USB music issue and I'll get the 333 update.

One of our head techs ran the remote diagnosis and it looks like there are some internal engine control unit software updates needed to resolve the check engine light. There should be no difference in driveability of the vehicle at this time and no safety risk to you, so I can schedule you a time with a loaner car to have us look at that if you'd like!

Went for a drive and the CE light is out. I did re-seat my gas cap, but it was on tight to begin with. Going to bring the car in on September 1 still for the software updates and have them try and fix the USB music issue.

The CEL came back on today. No messages in the service menu and car runs and drives fine. I kept my appointment for Labor Day so regardless of it going out again, it's going in.
