2026 E class with non-EV engine

I heard a rumor that MB will be offering a gasoline powered E class with a 4 cylinder engine that will not have an EV battery in 2026. Does anyone have any information on this rumor. And, although this is not an Audi site an Audi dealer told me that Audi will only offer a 2026 A6 model with only an electric motor, no gasoline powered cars except the for the A8 model.
I find this to be incredibly stupid since neither Americans or anyone else wants electric powered cars. I only hope the MB rumor is true. Thanks for all replies.

I can't speak to the MB rumor. All I have heard on the next A6 is gas powered Avant/wagon and E-Tron. Nothing yet on a gas powered sedan.

What was the source of that rumor? Was it from a trusted source? I kind of doubt MB would abandon the mild-hybrid but anything is possible.
