Not really. The ES and the Camry were twinning for several model generations, before the Avalon (a more roomier Camry) was introduced in the mid-90s.

The Avalon (is it still around?) had far more interior space than either the ES or its twin, the Camry.

No the Avalon was discontinued. In its place, at least according to Toyota, is the Crown.

Is I posted above, the Lexus ES twin was the Avalon, a stretched Camry, not the Camry.

p
The Avalon was introduced well after a decade after the Toyota Camry and its twin the Lexus ES came into being. The ES, based on the Toyota Camry that arrived into the US market a few years earlier, was introduced to bring in volume sales to the newly introduced Lexus brand. The exact same interior and exterior dimensions between these 2 twins, for several generations thereafter.

It is certainly possible, that a few generations after the Avalon was introduced, they decided to stretch the ES into a size between the Avalon and the Camry, even though the Avalon is still larger than either of these near-identical platform mates.

Could be so, but when you google Avalon vs. Lexus ES, they are built on the same platform and have nearly identical dimensions:
