Burmester 4D Sound system with Atmos

I finally decided to take the time to try Dolby Atmos in my car. I have several DVDs with Dolby surround sound in 5.1 and a few in actual Atmos which is very different. All were live recordings. I didn't know how to rip these with all the tracks to preserve the sound format so I did some research and found a way. The results are stunning! Initially I tried a few concert DVDs that sound great, but not as good as I would have hoped. I also had a few studio albums from Rush that sound amazing but they are not true Dolby Atmos. Then I decided to get Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Animals in Atmos and I was blown away. Listening to Money in Atmos is unreal. The sound is so clear and they really make use of the Atmos object sound technology. Listening to Rush's Moving Pictures and 2112 are also amazing even though it's not true Atmos. I have always been someone who likes to turn up the volume when the music is good in terms of sound quality and dynamic range. This system can actually get so loud it will hurt you while still being perfectly clear.

As you might have guessed from the two above mentioned bands that I prefer progressive rock and you would be right. I also listen to classic rock and blues rock and do not typically get into much of the pop music, rap, and much of the popular music today. My play lists including the above are bands like Zeppelin, Kansas, Yes, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Govt Mule, Joe Bonnamassa, Dream Theater, and the list goes on. Basically everything from Simon and Garfunkel to Metallica. I have most of what I like on CDs and vinyl that I have been collecting for many years. I have a turn table that I listen to music on often. I don't get into streaming services. That said, I decided to get Apple music as a trial since they claim to have a lot of Atmos content. I've found that they do have a lot, but 95% of it is the popular music of today that I don't listen to. One of my favorites they do have is Elton John's Rocket Man which sounds incredible in Atmos. Sadly, you cannot buy his limited edition Diamonds DVD that has this and many of his hits in Atmos any longer other than on Ebay at inflated prices. Another song in Atmos on Apple is Fleetwood Mac's Dreams, but I found that to be a poor Atmos recording with overemphasized bass. Other songs in Atmos lack the dynamics to take advantage of the sound such as Jim Croce's Leroy Brown which sounds great, but not any different than the stereo mix I already have. It's only been a few days, but I'm not finding enough Atmos content I like on Apple to justify the cost. I have a 6 month free trial through Verizon, but I doubt I'll keep it beyond that. Instead, I'll continue to search for some of my favorite music in Atmos to buy so I can rip it to FLAC and enjoy it in my car.

All this to say. If you have the Burmester 4D sound system and you haven't heard quality Atmos music on it, you are missing out. It's incredible!

Try “Who’s Next” by the Who and the Beatles “Abbey Road” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band.” They sound great and are in Atmos on Apple Music. Also, Talking Heads (if you like them) have “Talking Heads ‘77” and “More Songs About Buildings and Food” in Dolby Atmos on Apple Music. Also, I remember Apple Music having a Dolby Atmos sampler playlist with a wide variety of genres of songs that one can pick through.

Enjoy! I’m gonna check out your Pink Floyd suggestions.

Beats talking about other stuff happening today…

Thanks, I'll look for them. They have a few playlists in Atmos but most have a lot of music I don't like with only a few songs I do like. I haven't explored much of it though so I'll do more digging. I have 6 months to determine if I want to spend real money on it.

I too am a huge fan of ProgRock @L1Wolf and Classic Rock.
Queue-up some Yes (The Yes Album) or some Genesis (Trick of the Tale) - I bet your goosebumps get goosebumps 😃

Multiple programs starting with Make MKV to rip the DVD to a .mkv file and then Music Media Helper to extract the audio from the MKV. Do a search for "how to rip blue ray audio" and you will find a few YouTube videos on it.
